Gender in Value Chains Innovation serves for exchange and learning on gender in value chains, one of the core themes of AgriProFocus Uganda. Materials available are open to all. The group is also used for exchange among participants in the Gender in Value Chains coaching trajectory. Its mission is to improve gender equity in agricultural value chain development. This groups aims to indentify synergies among market info systems and promote collaboration towards harmonization of content. It is one of the core themes of AgriProFocus Uganda. Materials available are open to all. The group is also used for exchange among participants in the market information thematic group.

This knowledge base encourages learning and exchange among the members of the AgriProFocus Uganda thematic group on policy around agriculture and entrepreneurship in Uganda

Meat Sector

Currently, Livestock production in Uganda constitutes about 70.8% representing 4.5 Million households that rear at least one kind of livestock or poultry in Uganda (National Livestock Census report 2009) 99.1% of livestock rearing households use family labor as the main source of labor for livestock rearing. The focus of the AgriProFocus Nyama Platform is to promote joint action across the Nyama value chain without jeopardising their household food security.

Horticulture

Uganda has fairly well distributed rainfall and moderate climate and is capable of producing most of the tropical and sub-tropical fruits and vegetables, herbs and spices, or even temperate fruits and vegetables in the higher altitude areas. The industry relies heavily on imported seeds for vegetables, such as okra and hot pepper. Ugandan fruits in particular are reported to be sweeter and less acidic than those produced in other countries in the region; however, only a small percentage is of export quality. Small scale rain-fed farms of smallholder farmers dominate the sub-sector.
