SEED has opened the Call for Applications for the 2017 SWITCH Africa Green (SAG) – SEED Awards. The SEED Awards for Entrepreneurship in Sustainable Development is an annual awards scheme designed to find the most promising, innovative and locally led start-up eco-inclusive enterprises in countries with developing and emerging economies.

Requirements

For the 2017 SAG-SEED Awards, the call for applications is open to enterprises within the six focus Countries; Uganda, Burkina Faso, Ghana, Kenya and Mauritius South Africa active in the following four sectors:

Open Call For Proposals: Field Attachment Program Award (FAPA)

The Field Attachment Program Award (FAPA) is a competitive grants program designed as graduate student internship to link thesis research findings and recommendations to application and use at community level. The FAPA grants are intended to provide opportunity for dissemination of research outputs with a view to inform policy development and hone students’ skills in working with communities to use the research outputs that have been generated.

Today already more than half of the world’s population lives in urban areas. By 2050 this will be risen to two-thirds. The continuous increase of urban population is due to factors like rural-urban migration, natural disasters or livelihood insecurities. Providing food and nutrition security for the rapidly expanding populations in the world’s cities is a pressing challenge in this changing world. Delivering nutritious food to cities is a complex problem that is also challenged by natural resource scarcity, climate change, and population growth, which affect food systems globally.

Call for proposals 2017:
African local resources in the service of family farming

The aim of the call for proposals:

Enhancing the local resources of African lands (agricultural practices, know-how, local agricultural products, etc.) and optimizing their management in order to support their role in the development of family farming in Africa.

SEED Foundation wishes to support projects that maintain the diversity of the local resources while offering innovative prospects to transform the agricultural system. This theme is an answer to the challenges of standardization and homogenization of practices and the loss of diversity in the agri-food sector.

Theme: Enhancing the African local resources and optimizing their management

Eligible applicants: French and African non-profit organizations in a formalized partnership

Grant: between 7,000€ and 15,000€

Total funding for 2017: 45,000€

Tony Elumelu Foundation - Entrepreneurship Program for Africans 2017


The Tony Elumelu Entrepreneurship Program (TEEP) fosters and supports start-up enterprises in Africa. The Netherlands Enterprise Agency manages the Sustainable Water Fund (FDW) as a public-private partnership for water safety and water security in developing countries. Projects are collective initiatives between governmental bodies, industries, and NGOs. Promoting transparency and innovation to scale-up and deepen microfinance outreach in Africa

The African Development Bank (AfDB), in collaboration with the Government of Spain, established the Microfinance Capacity Building Fund (MCBF) with the primary objective of scaling-up capacity building efforts to the financial sector for the benefit of poor and low-income people in Africa, with a special emphasis on women and rural areas. The Fund was launched with Euros 5 million in funding from the Government of Spain. The AfDB expects to mobilize additional funding as the Fund transforms from a Bi-lateral Fund to a Multi-Donor Fund.
