AgriProFocus is an international multi-stakeholder network in the agri-food sector consisting of farmer entrepreneurs, private sector enterprises, governments, knowledge institutions and civil society organisations. By bringing these stakeholders together, their individual and collective impact increases.

Active in 13 countries in Africa and South-East Asia, and linking 23.000 agribusiness professionals worldwide, we are the go-to network for farmer entrepreneurs in agricultural value chains.

The AgriProFocus network members collaborate to strengthen the position of farmers and other agri-entrepreneurs in agricultural value chains. Entrepreneurs, small and medium scale, who are market oriented, business driven and willing to learn, innovate and grow. Entrepreneurs who together can, and will, make a difference for sustainable food and nutrition security at national, regional and international level.

Dissemination Workshop - Finance for Smallholders

AgriProFocus Uganda, in collaboration with the members of NpM, Platform for Inclusive Finance, the 13 largest investors in the Netherlands, organized a dissemination workshop of the research entitled “Finance for Smallholders: Opportunities for Risk Management by linking Financial Institutions and Producer Organizations”. The workshop was held on 21st July, 2016 at Hotel Africana, Kampala Uganda. The meeting attracted 57 participants (32 male and 25 female).

Présentation de Mme Geling Alinta

Chers membres du réseau,

C’est avec un grand plaisir que nous vous présentons Mme Geling Alinta , du Programme des Jeunes Experts en Agrobusiness . Notre nouvelle collègue est une néerlandaise Issue donc d’un pays d’entrepreneurs, et d’une famille d’agriculteurs, elle a grandi entre la Guinée-Bissau et le Mali.

Alinta a travaillé en 2015 à International Crisis Group , comme Assistante de Recherche au bureau de Dakar, et a occupé le poste d’assistante de gestion et communication à Near East Foundation , Sévaré –Mali.

Elle obtient de 2014-2016, un Master en Sciences Po Paris, France en Sécurité Internationale spécialisation: Afrique et Agriculture.

De 2010-2013 à l’Université Leiden, Pays-Bas, elle obtient un Bachelor en Paix, Justice et Durabilité Concentration : Développement.

Elle est maintenant de retour en Afrique pour appuyer l’équipe AgriProFocus, tout particulièrement dans le cadre de l’entreprenariat

Atelier de formation sur l’élaboration d’une fiche technique des produits agroalimentaires et l'initiation à l'optimisation de la place du marché 

Ce jour 09 Juillet 2016 s’est tenu à l’Agri Pro Focus un atelier de formation sur l’élaboration d’une fiche technique animé par madame Aminata Diakité en présence de 42 participants venant d'une vingtaine d'entreprise.

L''atelier a débuté  par le mot de bienvenue du coordinateur du projet qui dans son discours à inviter les participants à être assidu et courageux compte tenu de la pertinence du motif de l’atelier qui est la déficit de fiche technique des fournisseurs envers les clients( les hôtels, les supermarchés, les clients de l’extérieurs etc. …. )

Le président de la Fédération Nationale des Transformateurs du Mali (FENATRA) a remercié au nom des participants l’équipe AgriProFocus pour cette initiative au bénéfice des transformateurs.

Stakeholder meeting Youth in Agriculture, organised by AgriProFocus and the Food and Business Knowledge Platform (F&BKP), facilitated by Dr. Monk. The Hague, New World Campus, 12th May 2016 in the afternoon.

FSRE Up-Scaling Fund Projects Kick-off the Learning Agenda

FSRE Innovation Fund, financed by the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands and managed by ICCO Cooperation on behalf of AgriProFocus, has been supporting 75 innovative projects since 2012. The fund has innovation and matching grant facilities which financed 39 and 29 innovations respectively. Recently a third Up-Scaling facility is introduced to support innovation that showed accomplishment in their previous implementations.

Up-Scaling Facility

A closed call to invite a number of innovation that have been supported by FSRE Fund to submit an up-scaling proposal was sent earlier this year. According to the fund managers, the major requirements for the invitation are being successful in the previous project and potential of the innovation for scaling up. Development of and support to agri-entrepreneurship is at the heart of the AgriProFocus network. 

Through AgriProFocus, agribusiness professionals from the corporate sector, CSO’s, knowledge institutes and governments join forces, share knowledge and combine resources to fully unlock the potential of agri-entrepreneurship for food and nutrition security. Through our Dutch roots and the 20.000 registered professionals in 12 country networks, we are able to facilitate linking and learning and demonstrate that the Dutch Diamond really works in practice.

Regional trade facilitation: fostering (business) opportunities for resource poor producers, traders and consumers?

Headlines of a debate at Ministry Foreign Affairs Netherlands. With TMEA (Patricia Ithau), BoPInc (Henk van Duijn), ECDPM (Bruce Byiers).


In a public debate session at the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs in The Netherlands, experiences of Trade Mark East Africa were discussed and compared with those of BoPInc, in search of further Knowledge sharing on the key question above.

Trade Mark East Africa was created 5 years ago, focusing on regional integration, trade, competitiveness of businesses in the region, in order to reduce poverty in East Africa. Network Results 2015: Youth Roadshow

Example Tanzania

Omary Iddi was one of the speakers during the Youth Roadshow held in Tanzania. He encouraged youth by sharing the story how he started his business with a capital of 7,000 Tanzania Shillings. “I now own a shop and a farm and sell and multiply cassava seedlings. My harvest is 16 tonnes of cassava seedlings per acre. I also offer training on how to grow cassava and how to control pests and diseases”.

Typical deals and partnerships

AgriProFocus Network Results 2015

At the fairs in Choma and Chipata in Zambia, 15 % of visitors indicated to have closed a deal, e.g. 30 farmers in Chipata receiving loans from Vision Fund to purchase dairy cows.

Horti-processor Ronipam Enterprises was linked to Green Age International company at the horti fair in Rwanda. They reached an agreement to expand their operations.

Orange Asean Food Challenge

Orange Factory conducts feasibility study Myanmar for AgriProFocus as part of the Food Challenge


Climate change, growing populations, rapid urbanization and shifting diets are major challenges in Southeast Asia. With its floods, draughts and fast growing cities Thailand is no exception. Innovative solutions are needed to produce safe and healthy food for everyone and in a sustainable way.

From 20 June 2016 around 30 young professionals and students from the Netherlands and Southeast Asia will come together in Bangkok for the three week Orange ASEAN Food Challenge. AgriProFocus Network Results 2015: Radio Talk Shows

Example: Rwanda

In 2015, AgriProFocus Rwanda organized weekly talk shows with Huguka radio. The main focus were hot topics from innovation communities - youth in agribusiness, agriculture financing and agri-insurance - and information on market opportunities.

The show reached 1,500,000 farmers and promoted a mind-set change with farmers to become more entrepreneurial.

AgriProFocus Network Results 2015: Finance Fairs

Example: Mbale, Uganda 


The Regional Finance Fair was organized with the Hunger Project, AMFIU, GIZ, SNV, Feed the Future, VECO and Financial Access. It attracted close to 400 participants and 30 exhibitors. A pre-event for 40 producer organisations increased their preparedness and confidence to interact with financial service providers. 15 of them made deals with Centenary Bank, Opportunity Bank and Pride Micro-Finance.

Since 2013 AgriProFocus collaborates with GIZ and Bank of Uganda to disseminate the Finance Year Book. The book features sub-sector oriented developments and information on the development of the agri-sector in general including access to finance.

During the Mbale finance fair, half of the first day was dedicated to disseminating this information in the form of a workshop.

AgriProFocus Worldwide Network Results 2015: Business Linking

Example Ethiopia: Regular Business Drinks (five in 2015) were co-organised with the Agri-Business Support Facility (ABSF). Visitors can have a one-minute pitch.

A distributor of Purdue Improved Crop Storages (PICS) presented the actual bags and made a deal for ETB 12.800 on the spot with Damot Wolayta Cooperative Union. Visitors indicated their prime motive for participating to be: funding; finding partners; market and visibility.

“I have been looking for the right person for 3 years, today I got the opportunity to meet, chat and made a formal appointment.” Ato Wagnew Ayalneh, from Wasa Mushroom Farm.

AgriProFocus Network Results 2015: Bankable Business Plans

FINAGRI in Segou, Mali

The Segou finance fair was organised in March 2015 with support of the Netherlands Embassy and with IFDC, Oikocredit and others. The event attracted 3258 participants and 40 exhibitors. AgriProFocus Mali organized a business plan training for submitters. 53 business plans were shared between 3 banks and 4 microfinance institutions, 56 % was financed!

The event opened up new relations with and between producer organisations in the region and various banks and microfinance institutions and with international agencies such as USAID.

AgriProFocus Worldwide Network Results 2015!

With pleasure the AgriProFocus global team presents the 2015 network results to its stakeholders: our Dutch partnership members, country network affiliates, and of course our public partners. 

Increased services and relevance for multiple stakeholders

2015 has been a good year for the network in terms of the outreach of its products and services. The number of events in the country networks - co-created with and for stakeholders - went up 30%. Online registered agri-professionals increased with more than 50%. 2015 saw a dynamic online information and knowledge exchange. Our ‘one-stop-shop’ online platform is working! 

Tangible results for agri-entrepreneurs from knowledge and business services

In terms of outcome: stakeholders have used the network benefits to build capacities in their organisation or business (notably staff skills and marketing), and improved the services they deliver to farmer entrepreneurs. They pointed out that

Fruitful FSRE Poultry Event with small-scale farmers and commercial farms

On Tuesday 31 May, 2016, we held a successful Poultry Event in Debre Zeit in which commercial farmers and small-scale farmers were able to meet each other face-to-face and discuss the challenges and opportunities regarding the general poultry management of small-scale farmers and the relationship of small-scale farmers with commercial farms.

The purpose of this Poultry Event was to present the results of a poultry survey AgriProFocus conducted in and around Debre Zeit, and to stir a lively discussion around the results that came out of this survey.

Conférence sur Agroforesterie Entrepreneuriale (AFE) :

Dans le cadre de la célébration de la 12ème édition de la semaine culturelle et scientifique des étudiants de la Faculté d’Agronomie, AgriProFocus Niger à travers le cabinet Partners for Innovation Niger a animé une conférence sur « l’Agroforesterie comme stratégie d’adaptation aux changements climatiques et à la lutte contre la pauvreté : Agroforesterie Entrepreneuriale (AFE) » le vendredi 27 mai 2016.

L’objectif de cette conférence est de permettre aux étudiants de prendre conscience des enjeux du changement climatique, et de comprendre l’importance de l’agroforesterie comme stratégie d’adaptation au changement climatique.

Cette conférence a été riche en échange et partage d’idée, mais aussi d’opportunités pour les étudiants dans l’agroforesterie et le changement climatique au Niger.

Holland Pavilion at the 11th National Agricultural Show

The Rwandan Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Resources (MINAGRI) is organizing the 11th National Agricultural Show from the 14th to the 20th June 2016 in Rwanda. The Agricultural Show is one of several regional agricultural fairs in the region, aiming to prosper and flourish business and technology transfer in agricultural commercial exchange activities. The theme of this year’s show is ‘Invest in Agricultural innovations for prosperity’.

Holland pavilion

The Netherlands embassy is attending this coming agricultural show with a Holland pavilion in which Dutch agricultural companies, active and/or interested in doing business in Rwanda, exhibit their products, knowledge and are present to provide information. Besides, the Holland pavilion features an area where visitors of the pavilion can meet and talk with the Dutch.

Didier MUYIRAMYE Hi Ben! Actually it is the EKN which was in charge of inviting the Dutch companies who were to attend the 2016 National Agricultural show! Our contribution was only in disseminating this information to our members, who were interested in meeting with one of the Dutch companies' representatives .
