The Netherlands embassy in Kigali is implementing a substantial Aid and Trade program in Rwanda.
Trade and Investment, which includes Private Sector Development, has become over the past years an important policy theme within the embassy’s programming, which will be developed further in the next years. The policy officer Private Sector Development will be part of a multi-disciplinary embassy team, which consists of more than 30 staff of which 11 expatriates.
The embassy is looking for a dynamic person with extensive knowledge of, and experience in the private sector in Rwanda, as well as working experience in an international environment.

Smallholder platform at IFC/MAS is looking for consultant(s) to conduct the analysis of ICT solutions available on the market that would address the following core challenges for integrating smallholder farmers in value chain:

Precision agriculture is an approach of directing small regions within fields instead of directing whole fields as one unit. Numerous farmers have recorded the significance of utilizing site-specific data to manage nutrients, pests, water, seeding rates, and other resources in a more efficient manner.
Precision farming is related to sophisticated technologies in satellites and computers, which most farmers have neither the financial or physical resources to employ. However, precision farming can still be implemented to improve various crop management decisions even without costly technologies. A number is provided in this article. The network was launched in 2016 in a collaborative effort between of Spark with AgriProFocus. From the on-set the organization’s development followed a systematic approach leading to legal recognition. The network started with 30 members who had the common and innovative vision of enhancing quality, standards, value, accessibility and profitability of the Agri Business and development services in Rwanda.
The establishment of this network is timely as the country seeks to use business driven approaches to meet current demand in country and to increase exports. In time the Agri BDS Network can help to fill gaps and support existing services in areas such as finance, inclusive markets, value chain costs structures and market distortions.

On Thursday 21, AgriProFocus Rwanda organized a network day which took place at Umubano Hotel from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm. The objective of the day was to share with members, achievements of 2015 and the plans for 2016 as well as introducing the new AgriProFocus coordinator.
In total the meeting was attended by 95 participants from private companies, farmer organizations, NGOs, and knowledge institutions. After presentations on the 2015 achievements and plans for 2016, participants joined working groups in which they discussed on AgriProFocus strategy. This was also an opportunity to share with members different funding opportunities such as YEP, FAR and Amply.
AgriProFocus was pleased by the turn up of participants and we are confident that together, 2016 will be another year of success.

The first of its kind of a professional body for Agri business services providers kicked off this Friday, the 1st April 2016 in Kigali in Rwanda during the 1st General Assembly which gathered 46 pioneers assembled to establish the legal framework of the network, electing legal Representatives and signing by laws in the presence of the Government Notary. This professional body was founded with an innovative aim of enhancing quality, accessibility and profitability of the Agri BDS.
The General Assembly approved Network’s By-Laws, declared officially the Establishment of the Network and voted publically Network organs as provided by By-Laws. The ICCO MasterCard Foundation STARS program aims to address barriers to increase food security and income (access to financial services , insufficient farming inputs, integration into markets,) through a two-pronged approach: Development and implementation of financial products for agriculture with MFIs; and Value Chain Development and linking with financial services. The five-year program aims to increase income and food security for at least 210,000 low-income, smallholder farmers (50% women) and their families. The program is implemented in Senegal, Burkina Faso, Ethiopia and Rwanda. It is foreseen to have a VCD advisor in each of the project offices.

The first Dairy Lab in Rwanda will take place in Nyagatare district from 10 to 11th March. The event will be made of visits to different farmers discussions in mornings, training and discussions in the afternoon. Participants this event are selected model farmers and other professional in the dairy sector that have been identified in partnership with Land O'Lakes.

A new start up has been producing barley nutrient supplement targeting at smallholder dairy farmers in Kenya and this seems to be promising!
