On this day the world asks special attention to women's rights and gender inequality. AgriProFocus supports this day and celebrates the obstacles women all around the world have overcome, while recognizing the challenges that women still face today. And of course AgriProFocus contributes year-round to overcoming these obstacles in agriculture specifically by having the innovation community of Gender in Value Chains.
Let’s be honest: women are still not treated equally to men (anywhere in the world). They are still seen as the ‘weaker sex’ and they’re talked about as if they are minorities (while everybody knows the men-women ratio is pretty much 50-50). This gender inequality is also reflected within agricultural value chains, where stereotypes and traditional gender roles cause unequal business opportunities for women, inefficient chains and limited productivity and profits.
Would you like to contribute to gender equality within... Read more
What difference does it make to be a female entrepreneur in Africa among male peers and the community? Why is it important to support women entrepreneurship? What is the best way of doing so? And what inspiration can women entrepreneurs offer for women leadership and inclusive business in the African agro-food sector?

In June 2016 ten AgriProFocus Gender in Value Chain (GVC) coaches from a variety of countries (ranging from Ethiopia, Uganda and Zambia to Benin and Indonesia) gathered in Kampala for a training. The objective of this training was twofold: it was held to further expand the expertise of national Gender coaches, while also creating a solid team, a community of coaches for co-creation and peer learning. Most of the participants already had experience in GVC coaching, which made the training not only an advanced course, but also the perfect occasion to link the coaches from different countries and create a network of coaches.
The Gender in Value Chains approach of AgriProFocus is a practical approach, build on hands-on advice and coaching by national coaches, and has as mission to improve gender equity in agricultural value chain development.

In the second of our quarterly PPPCafés we invite you to explore scaling. Lately, there has been a lot of ‘buzz’ around scaling impact in international development. But besides some basic typologies and models, the more practical questions are still left unanswered in literature. Based on preliminary findings of PPPLab’s scaling study, we like to discuss practical approaches and experiences on how PPPs can be instrumental in scaling development impact. We aim to do so with inputs and practical experience from our audience, making it an interactive session based on exchanging experiences and interactive learning. We will together explore the question: How can a PPP develop sound scaling strategies to really achieve impact at scale?
Are you involved in a PPP in the food & water sector or work with PPPs in another way, please join us on the 26th of May. You bring your tho... Read more
