We commemorated this year's Earth Day by revitalising Karura forest's glory by planting over 150 trees with our members. This year's international day whose theme was "Environmental and Climate Literacy" is a relevant theme for the network, because a literate society is able to make informed choices to reduce the impacts of climate change by taking care of the earth.
This day was also crucial to reflect as a country on climate commitments by engaging in activities that will replenish our beautiful country. It was an opportunity for stakeholders to engage in agroforestry, land restoration, and afforestation and reforestation projects. Planting trees and enhancing forest cover is critical work because it has the potential to restore land, benefit local communities, and combat climate change. AgriProFocus Kenya has organised a half day tree planting exercise in Karura Forest on Friday 21st April 2017, to commemorate this year's Earth Day scheduled for 22nd April 2017. This year's theme "Environmental and Climate Literacy" - a relevant theme for the sector, because a literate society is able to make informed choices to reduce the impacts of climate change. Climate smart strategies need to be learned and widely disseminated by the stakeholders in this space.
The members of the AgriProFocus network would like to find critical answers to what are the opportunities for entrepreneurs in driving climate smart strategies and how do we support them. As a commitment made during the last Annual Network Day, AgriProFocus network will contribute to making Karura forest green with indigenous species of trees by undertaking a tree planting exercise.
