Your effort on 0-7 days really matters to obtain good results from your chickens

Senior Poultry Expert from PUM, Mr. Joost Gerrits never visited Ethiopia before but seems well informed about the country. When he arrived last week, he came with a great objective – to share his 45 years of experience and knowledge in a simple and practical manner to small scale poultry farmers in Bishoftu.

Five basic things a chicken needs:
1. Feed 2. Water 3. Oxygen 4. Temperature 5. Light

Learning Labs have been implemented in other AgriProFocus country networks, such as Tanzania and Zambia. The objective is to equip farmers with practical knowledge in a short term training which includes field visits and question-answer sessions.

To that objective, AgriProFocus Ethiopia, in collaboration with PUM, Netherlands Senior Experts, and with three FSRE Fund innovators in Bishoftu, organized a three days Poultry Learning Labs from July 19-21, 2016 to around 60 small scale poultry farm

FSRE Up-Scaling Fund Projects Kick-off the Learning Agenda

FSRE Innovation Fund, financed by the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands and managed by ICCO Cooperation on behalf of AgriProFocus, has been supporting 75 innovative projects since 2012. The fund has innovation and matching grant facilities which financed 39 and 29 innovations respectively. Recently a third Up-Scaling facility is introduced to support innovation that showed accomplishment in their previous implementations.

Up-Scaling Facility

A closed call to invite a number of innovation that have been supported by FSRE Fund to submit an up-scaling proposal was sent earlier this year. According to the fund managers, the major requirements for the invitation are being successful in the previous project and potential of the innovation for scaling up. Furthermore, as the four year program of FSRE Fund is to be ended on December 2016, the up-scaling project must have a six months implementation period. Track record of timely r

Interview of the Month

With Dr. Angeline Nguedjeu

Regional Advisor for Lobby and Advocacy, ICCO Cooperation

In July, ICCO Cooperation had organized a three days training on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) for FSRE Fund winners engaging in the agribusiness sector. Dr. Angeline Nguedjeu, Regional Advisor for Lobby and Advocacy for ICCO Cooperation, was leading the training. At the end, when they are asked their comment on the training, all the participants were lacking words to express her talent. She is funny, she does not run out of examples, and she clarifies everything easily. We had the opportunity to have this short interview with the Cameroonian lady. She will tell us the benefits of CSR, the role of government, how CSR can go hand in hand with achieving food security, and more.

(Reports on the training can be found HERE, and please also find reflections and previous experiences of the participants on CSR HERE)
