FSRE Innovation Fund Closing Event

A book launch & a learning opportunity

Important Presentations of the event are attached below.

On Tuesday 18 April 2017, AgriProFocus, in collaboration with ICCO Cooperation, organized the closing event for the Food Security and Rural Entrepreneurship Innovation Fund at Golden Tulip Hotel, Addis Ababa.

FSRE Innovation Fund has been financed by the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Ethiopia. The Fund has been managed by ICCO Cooperation on behalf of AgriProFocus, which in parallel has organized learning events and conducted coaching visits to the innovation projects as part of a learning trajectory.

74 innovative projects

The morning session of the event was dedicated to the final learning event where innovators of the 74 innovative food security projects attended. Call for Application: Geodata for Agriculture and Water

The Geodata for Agriculture and Water (G4AW) Facility is a grant programme of the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs. It falls under the policy priority of food security, which focuses on increasing and enhancing sustainable food production as well as achieving more efficient agricultural water use, particularly in irrigated areas and water basins in the G4AW partner countries.

Administrative rules have been published in the Dutch Government Gazette (Staatscourant No. 13493, March 17, 2017)

Budget

The available budget for the G4AW call of 2017-2018 is 19.8 million euro.

Application period

Requests for an advisory opinion can be submitted from 15 April to 15 June 2017.

Applications may be submitted until 15:00 CET on 14 September 2017. If the application is submitted less than two weeks before the deadline of 14 September 2017, the applicant runs the risk that, if it is incomplete, the Minister will not use his or her discretionary powers

Launch of ‘Innovations Against Poverty’ challenge fund

Kampala, Uganda. Innovations Against Poverty (IAP) launches its first call for proposals on 30th March 2017.

IAP is a specialised fund developed to identify and support innovative Inclusive Business ideas that deliver both commercial benefits for the private sector and developmental benefits for low income people, while advancing the inclusion and economic empowerment of women and youth. IAP is funded by Sida (Swedish International Development Agency) and managed by SNV Netherlands Development Organisation in partnership with BoP Innovation Center and Inclusive Business Sweden.

Innovations Against Poverty (IAP) Fund Launch in Zambia

SNV Netherlands Development Organisation, in partnership with BoP Innovation Center and Inclusive Business Sweden, has been selected by SIDA (Swedish International Development Agency) to manage the Innovations Against Poverty (IAP) Fund.

IAP is a specialised fund aimed to identify and support innovative inclusive business models that deliver both commercial benefits for the private sector and developmental benefit for the low income population, prioritising women and youth. The support provided by IAP includes a mix of advisory and non-reimbursable funding for up to EUR 200,000.

The IAP Fund launch is being held on 28th March 2017. The main objectives of the workshop are to:

1. Introduce the concept of innovative inclusive business and IAP

2. Introduce the application guidelines for the concept note.

3. Clarify any doubts or questions regarding the fund or application process.

Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research — Grants for Conferences, Workshops, Seminars, and Field Days

Deadline: 01 October 2017

ACIAR offers sponsorship assistance to individuals wishing to attend a conference, seminar, workshop or field day that directly benefits agricultural research for development. ACIAR also supports organisations seeking sponsorships for this same objective. The priority is for events and sponsorships in ACIAR partner countries and related to ACIAR projects. However, direct involvement in an ACIAR project is not a prerequisite to apply for funding. The application deadlines are the first Wednesday of April and the last Wednesday of October in each calendar year. Link

Promoting transparency and innovation to scale-up and deepen microfinance outreach in Africa

The African Development Bank (AfDB), in collaboration with the Government of Spain, established the Microfinance Capacity Building Fund (MCBF) with the primary objective of scaling-up capacity building efforts to the financial sector for the benefit of poor and low-income people in Africa, with a special emphasis on women and rural areas. The Fund was launched with Euros 5 million in funding from the Government of Spain. The AfDB expects to mobilize additional funding as the Fund transforms from a Bi-lateral Fund to a Multi-Donor Fund.

Introducing 3rd Round FSRE (Innovation) Fund Winners

On May 25, AgriProFocus Ethiopia  starts the linking and learning activity for the 3rd round FSRE Fund Innovation Grant Winners.

Nine projects who won this 3rd Call Innovation Fund are here with us, and Gerrit Holtland, our Country Coordinator is giving presentation about previous projects, what the objectives of the Innovation Fund are, and on practical challenges of implementation.

Part of the event was to exhibit summaries of all previous and current projects using colorful posters.

Under the previous three Calls of the Innovation Grant, 29 projects are being supported by the Food Security and Rural Entrepreneurship Fund (FSRE Fund).

Buffett Foundation Commits Rwf345 Billion Toward Agricultural Development  

American Philanthropist Howard Buffett, through the Howard G. Buffett Foundation, has embarked on an ambitious plan to invest up to $500 million (about Rwf345 billion) to support Rwanda’s agricultural development.

The Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research (WOTRO) manages the Food & Business Applied Research Fund to provide grants to demand-driven applied research that contributes to innovation for food security in developing countries.

The program is active in the 15 partner countries of Dutch development cooperation: Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Benin, Burundi, Ethiopia, Ghana, Indonesia, Kenya, Mali, Mozambique, Palestinian Territories, Rwanda, South Sudan, Uganda, and Yemen. The Fund invites applications by consortia consisting of at least one practitioner organization (i.e. companies, NGOs, governmental organizations) from a partner country, and one research or higher education organization.

At least one Dutch partner is required in the consortium. Grants range from €50 thousand (for six months) to a maximum of €300 thousand (for 36 months).

FSRE-Fund 3rd Call Public Seminar Schedules and Locations

 

Dear All,

As you all already know the FSRE Fund is launching the third Innovation Fund Call for Proposals, and the Deadline for Concept Notes is November 28, 2014.

What is interesting about this Call:

- The focus is on horticulture, potatoes (irish/sweet), poultry and fish farming.

- The fund managers at ICCO are organizing a series of public seminars on the call in Addis Ababa, Bahar Dar, Hawassa, Mekelle, Harar.
