Untuk mempermudah anggota jejaring dalam melakukan kerja-kerjanya, semenjak kwartal akhir 2016 AgriProFocus mulai membangun database jaringan AgriProFocus di Indonesia. Database jaringan ini berisi informasi tentang program dan aktivitas, area kerja, isu pertanian yang dikerjakan, jaringan mitra lokal dan kontaknya, serta dokumen pengetahuan/pembelajaran. Kontribusi informasi dari empat organisasi yaitu Hivos, ICCO, Oxfam dan SNV menandai mulainya pembangunan database ini.
Setiap anggota jaringan AgriProFocus di Indonesia bisa mengkases database ini dengan menghubungi tim sekretariat AgriProFocus. Agar database terus tumbuh, setiap anggota yang mengakses diharapkan juga memberikan informasi tentang organisasi dan aktivitasnya.

It has been confirmed that; Gender equality increases productivity and credibility in companies and organizations. If women and youth were meaningfully participating in income generating activities, then Uganda would annually be earning 227 billion shillings [UNDP report 2016].
Women and youth play a significant role in food production and supply chain. Interventions that are gender aware are greatly and positively impacting on their constituencies.

AgriProFocus Indonesia menyelenggarakan Network & Learning Event kedua di tahun 2016 dengan mengundang Hivos Hub SEA, Swisscontact, dan Oxfam di Indonesia untuk berbagi strategi mereka dalam mengintegrasikan gender dalam rantai nilai. Acara ini berlangsung tanggal 01 Desember 2017, di Hotel Sahati, Jakarta.
Peran gender dalam rantai produksi dalam sektor pertanian sering kali belum diperhatikan. Ini berdampak pada banyak hal, seperti kurang tepatnya target penerima manfaat dari program peningkatan produksi, hilangnya kesempatan bisnis, pengelolaan usaha yang kurang efektif, hingga rendahnya kesejahteraan produsen (petani). The third East Africa Joint Learning Platform (JLP) was held from 8th to 11th November 2016 in Meru and Tharaka Nithi Counties, Kenya. The learning activity involved two days of field learning’s culminating in a conference on the third day. 59 participants were in attendance, drawn from farmer co-operatives, implementing partners from Uganda and Kenya, financial sector (banks and insurance companies) and County government who provided policy perspectives for coffee, dairy and related sectors.
1. Some farmers have installed bio digesters and they testified to have accrued many benefits such as saving on cost of purchasing cooking fuels, no need to plant shade trees, the use of bio slurry has resulted in reduce usage fertilizer and better health (no smoke, no bending).

AgriProFocus Kenya is organizing the third E. A. Coffee Joint Learning Platform (JLP) that will bring together our project partners working in coffee, dairy and biogas sectors for local economic development. The JLP has been designed in close consultation with partners in two public private partnership programs namely: “Food Security through Improved Resilience of Small Scale Farmers in Ethiopia and Kenya (FOSEK)” and “Sustainable Smallholder Systems at Scale” (4S@Scale) being implemented in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania.
The JLP shares a common learning cycle and approach, to compare the impact of the two programmes in the coffee sector. the Sustainable and
Secure Smallholder Systems
program (4S@Scale). The two programs are co-funded through the Netherlands ministry of
foreign affairs (MoFA) and Private sector partners. They have a common objective of increasing farmers’ income through sustainable coffee productions systems and diversification. Read More about the JLP
Hivos SEA recently publish a new book regarding the sustainable palm oil. The book was officially launched in Jakarta on January 26th, 2016
with the support of Indonesia’s Institute of Sciences (LIPI). The event
was attended by Biranchi Upadhyaya, Director of Hivos Southeast Asia,
the Head of LIPI Regional Resources Research Center, Dundin Zaenuddin.
and the authors, Panca Pramudya and Rini Hanifa.
The book is based on Hivos’ experiences working with smallholder
farmers in the palm oil sector in 2004. Hivos provided financial
support, helped them develop a certification system and increased their
institutional networking capacity.

Last week I was in Guatemala for the launch of the Spanish version of the coffee toolkit!!! This book was produced a year ago in English under the title ‘ Sustainable coffee as a family business; tools and approaches to include women and youth’.
Thanks to Hivos Central America a Spanish version was produced. The book launch was part of a gender in value chain workshop organized and facilitated by Hivos Central America together with AgriProFocus in Guatemala city. Thirty-five (35) people participated in the workshop representing the development-, the cooperative - and the private sector active in different value chains. The coffee -, the honey - and the cardamom sector were well represented. The workshop was very motivating for the participants to address gender in the development of these value chains, not only for social reasons (gender justice) but also for economic ones (more competitive value chains). The Joint Learning Platform, organized by AgriproFocus Kenya was held on 27th October through to the 30th October in Muranga County. The participants of the platform were drawn from a number of organizations that included financial institutions, farmer cooperatives, government, development partners and private sector players. The team visited Coffee Farmer co-operatives, small holder farmers and a large coffee estate. The visits helped the team to learn the achievements and lessons, challenges & opportunities in the coffee sector.
The objective of the platform was to share experiences and learn from the 4s@scale and FOSEK programs being implemented in Kenya, Tanzania and Ethiopia.

Celebrating Horticulture Program Experiences
AgriProFocus Kenya in collaboration with Solidaridad, HIVOS and SNV brought together the Horticulture sector stakeholders to a dissemination forum on the Horticulture and Food Security Program (HFSP) on the 19th February 2015 at the Jacaranda Hotel, Nairobi.
HFSP was a 3 year program implemented by Solidaridad (Lead), SNV and Hivos. The program was funded by The Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. AgriProFocus took the lead in the knowledge management component of the program. The program took the model of PPP and involved various private sector companies and farmer groups.
The aim of the dissemination forum was to share experiences, successes and challenges of the HFSP program. AgriProFocus on behalf of the program had compiled publications as well as audio visual materials documenting experiences within the program. From 2-4 October, Agri-ProFocus Indonesia saw its live launch at the Salak Hotel in Bogor. Over 60 participants from farmer organisations, NGOs, the private sector, government and knowledge institutes joined to set the network’s agenda, which is to promote farmer entrepreneurship in Indonesia and thus to contribute to food security in the country.
The workshop – hosted by Hivos ROSEA and facilitated by MDF – was opened by Mrs Musdalifah from the Ministry of Economic Affairs who said that “as much as 30-50% of the population in Indonesia is a farmer, and 125 million people are associated with farmers; yet most of them are living below the poverty line. I am very proud to be here as government representative involved in increasing capacity and empowerment of our farmers”.
