Read more

Three weeks ago, I arrived Yangon, the biggest city of Myanmar to work as the Country Coordinator for the 13th AgriProFocus network. I am impressed by the positive spirit and feel Myanmar has a lot of opportunity for economic development. With nearly 70% of the labour force dependent on agriculture, this sector has a crucial role to play in improving food and nutrition security for all. My first goal now is to further explore the role and added value of the AgriProFocus network in Myanmar and start up linking and learning activities with our Dutch members and local partners.
I would like to share some first conclusions and next steps that we want to take as the network.
We made a good start, with the visit Rolf Schinkel, network facilitator and interim Director of programs the week after my arrival. Together, we conducted an intensive round of introductions. The AgriProFocus network was warmly welcomed by many of our members from civil society, the priv... Read more

Enjoying Agri-ProFocus network day in Tanzania !
Today in Arusha,
about 50 professionals attended the Agri-ProFocus Tanzania network day. About
half the participants had been involved in co-organising one or more events,
other were new to the network. There were farmers, input providers, buyers,
NGOs and public sector (and me J)
The programme included an overview of network activities in 2014 and a discussion on plans for 2015 on inputs, markets, finance, youth and dairy. Two inspiring business presentations were given by MatchMaker Ltd (on the SME impact fund) and Mesula (on the organic farmers fair in Arusha).
As a coordination team, we are happy and proud to work with all of these committed people. We will process all your suggestions and observations into the final draft of the annual plan 2015.
During Rwanda annual planning meeting of Steering committee we had an jnteresting discussion on Innovation Communities concerning a value chain versus Thematic ICs like farm-Firm relations. They should relate like a matrix, but often function as complete seperate entities. VC innovation communities serve to create, evolve towards or reinforce a national platform of specific VC s. Thematic IC most often do not have the ambition to evolve into permanent national platforms but to just focus on realising concrete improvements in the support system. Recognisable in other countries?
Visit to Kenya
Last week I returned from a 9-day trip to Kenya where I met the team - Amos-Maureen-Jillian - for the first time. Hedwig, our director, joined the last 5 days. It was hectic, very interesting and we had fun. I am very impressed with the results of the network day. As you probably read already, more than 500 people participated: (farmer) entrepreneurs, business people, Government representitives and non-profit organisations. I attach the programme for you to see which interesting side events were offered during the day. The AgriProFocus Kenya network is, as one member put it: 'getting serious popularity', known in several counties in the country and in and around Nairobi thanks to quality events as business fairs, market events, B2B and expert meetings. Looking ahead at 2015, we will continue to expand as a network and critically maintain the quality of services we offer. We will improve our value propositions and be more pro-active to offer our services to... Read more
And our Network Day is coming up! Hope to have y'all there. :-)
