Few of the challenges humanity faces are as urgent and complex as food security. To meet the needs of a rapidly growing world population, an unparalleled, worldwide effort is required. Members of the AgriProFocus Network are dedicated to meeting this challenge in collaboration. By working together, learning from each other and unitedly pushing for change.
AgriProFocus brings together businesses, civil society, knowledge institutes and governments working towards food security. United in diversity, our members share the conviction that business and development are not mutually exclusive. This is why innovative 'agripreneurs' are at the heart of our strategy. AgriProFocus supports them in finding new, sustainable ways of doing business. Exchanging perspectives and expecting the unexpected. To accomplish more in a culture of collaboration. For people, planet and profit.
Navigating the network, AgriProFocus staff helps members find the right partners and the right information. Around specific questions, issues and opportunities. Rooted in the Netherlands, AgriProFocus is active in 12 countries in Africa and South-East Asia. Stretching from sprawling cities to remote, rural areas. Offering unique exchanges across cultures and disciplines. Cultivating collaboration.
Latest developments in the network:
Rabobank Foundation, ICCO Cooperation and AgriProFocus will present their new report ‘Critical Capital for African Agrifood SMEs’ during the foodFIRST conference in Utrecht, the Netherlands, on June 1. The report focuses on how to ease investments in agrifood small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Africa. It identifies the needs, current supply, unmet demand, challenges and inspiring cases of SMEs. Registration for foodFIRST is now open.
African agrifood entrepreneurs are key for establishing sustainable food systems to supply the growing African cities. However, agrifood SMEs face difficulties to access capital. They form the missing middle: too large for micro-finance and too small for mainstream banks and private equity firms. The report therefore calls on policy makers to promote a gradu... Read more

The last half we worked together with the Dutch Embassy in Pretoria (South Africa) and the Netherlands Enterprise agency (RVO) on a scoping study on innovations related to Climate Smart Agriculture. In principle with a focus on South Africa, however applicable to all countries who face server challenges. The result is interesting for parties who want to use climate adaptation and mitigation technologies (such as drought resistant plant varieties, use of water efficient instruments, soil improvement, use of inputs, solare power for water production, early warning systems) in the primary agricultural area.
In case you are interested in a little booklet with 25 innovations of Dutch businesses drop a short email to Mrs. K. van den B... Read more

Is there movement in the FDOV file? Everyone craves for news about FDOV edition III.
There were rumors and I am regularly asked why AgriProFocus does not know anything.
Well, is there news? Last week some news seeped through about FDOV: things are moving! Th... Read more

"The AgriProFocus network is an ideal platform to disseminate PUMs program to SMEs"
Could you introduce yourself and PUM to the AgriProFocus network members in Ethiopia?
My name is Mahalet Zewdineh, one of the local PUM Representatives in Ethiopia. PUM is a non-profit organization that is supported by the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The main objective of PUM is to provide technical assistance to SMEs in developing countries. It has been doing this for 40 years now and has assisted more than 40,000 organizations worldwide.
Could you share the big achievements of PUM in Ethiopia?
PUM believes that capital Investment alone is not sufficient for companies to become competitive. Expert know-how is a very necessary ingredient in order to improve their operations and compete in today's global market place. Technical Assistance is provided through PUM Experts that have more than 30 years of experience in the... Read more

Offer agrifood SMEs an assortment of services
The study focuses on agrifood SMEs that form the ‘missing middle’: too large for micro-finance and too small for mainstream banks and private equity firms. A major conclusion is that there are very few investment funds that meet the financing needs of agrifood SMEs, that are usually under 250.000 USD and rarely higher than 1M USD. Such smaller investments are tedious and costly for investment funds, even for those set up with the explicit goal to stimulate the development of the agrifood sector.... Read more
