Making Agribusiness Work for Development

Few of the challenges humanity faces are as urgent and complex as food security. To meet the needs of a rapidly growing world population, an unparalleled, worldwide effort is required. Members of the AgriProFocus Network are dedicated to meeting this challenge in collaboration. By working together, learning from each other and unitedly pushing for change.

AgriProFocus brings together businesses, civil society, knowledge institutes and governments working towards food security. United in diversity, our members share the conviction that business and development are not mutually exclusive. This is why innovative 'agripreneurs' are at the heart of our strategy. AgriProFocus supports them in finding new, sustainable ways of doing business. Exchanging perspectives and expecting the unexpected. To accomplish more in a culture of collaboration. For people, planet and profit.

Navigating the network, AgriProFocus staff helps members find the right partners and the right information. Around specific questions, issues and opportunities. ADA Consortium works on climate in the five ASAL counties of Kenya

The counties of Isiolo, Wajir, Garissa, Kitui and Makueni cover approximately 29% of Kenya’s land area and have a population of over 3 million people. The first three counties are arid while the last two are semi-arid.

Majority of the population in the five counties are vulnerable to the changing climate due to heavy reliance on climate sensitive sectors like agriculture and livestock but also inappropriate planning and implementation of development interventions.

ADA offers a range of policy briefs and backgrounders on their climate work. A recommended site !

Uganda is in the process of formulating a tea development policy during the 2nd quarter 2018. In the Field Level Bench-marking Report, it was proposed that a 5-day Uganda Kenya exchange learning visit be undertaken by the Uganda tea researchers and other identified relevant tea sub- sector actors with co-option of a long time tea Researcher Professor Magambo M. as one of the ways of contributing to policy formulation for an enabling policy environment in the Uganda tea sub-sector.

The tea sub-sector provides livelihood to over one million people mainly in the rural areas. Exports of tea have been increasing over the last ten years; however total export earnings have not kept pace due to the low quality of processed tea and unpredictable (Intermittent) tea prices at the Mombasa auction market, where over 90% of Uganda tea is sold.

A number of policy objectives for the tea policy were di
