MUBARAK INUWA When a day is set aside,to deliberate on food production globally, it is indeed a time to describe on the modern food sustainability and security. The poor nations of the world, are the ones who suffer the scourge of hunger and starvation perhaps due to lack of required quantities of food and nutrition productions.Green revolution policies are always being urged to be adopted in order to produce HYV.To supplement the unfertilized soil food production. Also, livestock productions, there is a great need for the industrialised nations to embark on research work to come with improved variety of animal husbandry.

A Lucky iron fish for everyone?

Business opportunities & “wacky” solutions for strengthening nutrition at the BoP

What can be done to support the consumption of more healthy food products by the poorest people in low- and middle-income countries, the people at the so-called “Bottom of the Pyramid” (BoP)? That is an urgent challenge, given the fact that globally 155 million children are still stunted, 52 million children are wasted, and 2 billion people lack key nutrients like iron and vitamin A1

This challenge is addressed by several actors in these countries and their international partners. Small, medium and larger enterprises from different sectors are those who use market-based solutions to produce, distribute and sell nutritious food products to consumers. In addition, NGOs and the public sector also contribute to tackling the different forms of malnutrition, including in countries with emergencies.

An event in Utrecht, the Netherlands, on October 4, 2018, facilitated

Curious to know how long it takes to get to the nearest city from anywhere on Earth?

Cities are a vital pathway to food and nutrition security. The Global Accessibility Map reveals how easy it is for people in different areas to access these resources - and that many people, especially in developing countries, often have to spend long hours to meet their basic needs.

Join us when Andy Nelson - Professor of Spatial Agriculture and Food Security at the University of Twente - presents this suprising and innovative visualisation of worldwide accessibility.

Nelson was asked in 2008 by the World Bank to calculate the number of people who lived within one hour travel time of a city.

‘I didn’t stop at one hour from a city, I kept going and ended up with a global map, which received a lot of attention. It was a completely new visualization of how connected we are,’ says Nelson. ‘We improved the quality of the map thanks to big advances in the available information and means, which we had at our di

Gender * Climate sourcebook (FAO, IFAD, WB)

This Gender in Climate-Smart Agriculture module provides guidance and a comprehensive menu of practical tools for integrating gender in the planning, design, implementation, and evaluation of projects and investments in climate-smart agriculture (CSA). The module emphasizes the importance and ultimate goal of integrating gender in CSA practices, which is to reduce gender inequalities and ensure that men and women can equally benefit from any intervention in the agricultural sector to reduce risks linked to climate change. Climate change has an impact on food and nutrition security and agriculture, and the agriculture sector is one of the largest emitters of greenhouse gases. It is crucial to recognize that climate change affects men and women differently.  (98 pages with many cases).

This presentation will look into when and how some technical options emerged, their impact and their potential for scaling. The focus will be on Niger, which has a limited natural resource base and it is strongly affected by climate change. It also holds the world record in demographic growth, it is the second poorest country in the world and it risks being destabilized by incursions from Boko Haram and jihadists from Mali.

What can be achieved in this increasingly complex context?

Time: 12:00 – 14:00 (with lunch)

Location: Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Rijnstraat 8, The Hague
