About Us

Rural Development Initiative (RDI) is youth civil society organization  created to serve individuals and families in the poorest communities by creating sustainable income and livelihood opportunities through promoting youth innovations that create positive changes in communities.

RDI was created by University students of the college of Agriculture in Rwanda (formerly ISAE) in 2011. Since its inception, RDI has been striving to improve the livelihoods of rural communities in Rwanda through volunteer projects designed to improve agriculture practices and agribusiness within the state, create standardized implementation practices for new technologies, facilitate opportunities for collaboration and shared responsibility amongst agricultural practitioners, and introduce farmer field schools for populations with the greatest need. RDI is registered and operates under law n° 04/2012 of 17/02/2012.

RDI is dedicated to elevate the knowledge and skills and economic situation of Rwandan youth to meet their fundamental human needs and achieve self-reliance, understanding and sustainable changes in life. RDI is particularly keen to focus on development projects for young women in rural communities.

Our five years strategic focuses are: Agriculture & Nutrition, Sustainable youth livelihoods and Employments and Youth Volunteerism .
