How Kasese farmers found gold mine in produce:

Francis Baita is one of the most known people in Kasese town even though he is not a politician or a member of the royal family. His rise to fame stemmed from his efforts to improve crop quality in the district. Baita is devoted to teaching farmers good agricultural practices such as crop spacing, proper harvesting, drying and market sourcing.

This, he does through his association Kiima Foods, Coffee and Grains (KFCG) which he started in 2014.

Starting

Baita explains that KFCG was founded on December 23, 2014 as a non-partisan anti-poverty farmers’ association.

This was a dream he conceived when he was a school boy. At the time he was growing crops such as maize, beans and coffee that earned him school fees until university. These crops earned him Shs2m to Shs5m per season.

Even though he spent most of the proceeds on clearing education costs, he saved some and used it to buy land on which he grew coffee. “Since childhood I swo

West Nile to set pace for coffee farming:

Coffee is one of Uganda's major cash crops, accounting for about 20%-30% of foreign exchange earnings. There are two types of coffee grown in Uganda - Arabica coffee accounting for 15% production and Robusta coffee accounting for 85%.

Arabica coffee is produced at high altitudes (over 1,500m above sea level) in the Mount Elgon areas in the East, the highland areas of Nebbi in the North and the mountainous areas of Kisoro and and Rukungiri in the Southwest. The coffees produced are generally described as 'mild.'

In 2009, Kyagalanyi Coffee Limited exported over 510,000 bags of coffee, each weighing 60kg. This represented 16% of the country's coffee export. The coffee was sold to the European Union, Japan, Australia and South Sudan. When Uganda's coffee crop was nearly decimated by the wilt disease in the 1990s and early 2000s, Kyagalanyi Coffee Limited supplied farmers with seeds of wilt-resistant varieties of Robusta coffee.

How to build successful B2B linkages in the agriculture sector:

Private sector plays a crucial role in the development of the agricultural sector across global markets. Not only are local small and medium enterprises considered essential for economic progress in most developing countries, but larger “lead firms” are increasingly establishing closer ties with SME suppliers due to rising standards in food regulations, traceability, and transparency.

When lead firms establish linkages with SME processors and suppliers, the potential for win-win outcomes soars. Lead firms can lower supply chain risks, reduce costs, and increase access to local quality products, while SMEs gain access to new markets, financing, and skills, as well as generate significant local employment and income opportunities.

According to a recent study completed by the infoDev unit of the World Bank — conducted by Agland Investment Services, a subsidiary of Dexis Consulting Group — partnerships between lead firms and SME

Dear Stakeholders;

Here is the Agribusiness Trade and Investment matchmaking (PAINT) Event 2017 video

This video is an illustration of the activities that transpired during the PAINT program in 2017 whose objective is to support Agriprenuers in Uganda to improve their competitive advantage and connect to long term strategic and profitable investment, financing, trade and BDS opportunities.

PAINT therefore offers a platform to consolidate the position of investors and other financiers to improve funding streams to local agri MSMSEs in Uganda. It’s a basis on which to further assess the development dynamics and opportunities towards agri-commercialisation, financial investments, enhance information sharing, cooperation among key sectoral players and facilitate business linkages. The program also aims to increase the flow of business and expertise between Uganda and the Netherlands.

This was a positive turning point in my career, 18th-25th August 2017 "Youth in Agribusiness Caravan 2017". The lessons learnt are still clear and fresh. All the agronomic practices, thats from Nursery management to Marketing of Agric-produce. AgriProFocus gave me the best platform to network with different people and organistions in Agric-Sector. This is how I got connected to Holland GreenTech Uganda, the company that supplies quality Agric-inputs and services, Irrigation systems and Green houses. Currently, I'm the Engineer of Holland GreenTech Uganda. I am happy and thankful for AgriProFocus and Holland GreenTech Uganda. It was also good to meet again at the PAINT (Promoting Agribusiness Investment Networking Trade) FORUM
