Post-doc position at the University of Bonn - application deadline 10 April

The Crop Science Group at the Institute of Crop Science and Research Conservation (INRES), and the Centre for Development Research (ZEF), at the University of Bonn, Germany, are looking for a Post-doc to evaluate the impacts of innovations in technology and crop management on the productivity of cropping systems in Africa. 


Main activities will comprise:


(i) up-scaling cropping system models for large area assessment of major food and cash crops including uncertainty analysis,
(ii) application of up-scaled models accounting for present production conditions and potential future changes in technology and crop management, and
(iii) linking the up-scaled cropping system models with national and continental scale economic models.

In collaboration with The African Union, New Partnership for Africa’s Development (NEPAD) Agency and
the African Orphan Crops Consortium (http://www.mars.com/global/african‐orphan‐crops.aspx), the
University of California, Davis is launching the African Plant Breeding Academy. 

The Plant Breeding Academy is a premium professional certificate program currently offered in the USA, Europe and Asia.  Eight classes offered worldwide since 2006 were attended by 133 breeders from 43 countries, making the UC Davis Plant Breeding Academy (PBA) the most recognized program of its kind. 

    The program covers the fundamentals and the most recent developments in plant breeding theory and practice. 
    The goal of the African Plant Breeding Academy is to train practicing African plant breeders in the most advanced theory and technologies for plant breeding in support of critical decisions for improvement.
