About Me

I hold a Masters degree in Agribusiness Management and I have over 10 years of experience working as an agribusiness consultant for several projects and organisations. Key among these is my previous work as the National Agribusiness Consultant for the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO), and SNV. My expertise stems from my training at EARTH University where I attained a Bachelor of Science Degree in Agriculture and Natural Resource Management.

I love networking, finding practical solutions to challenges facing farmers and I am passionate about agribusiness. I have experience facilitating networks and multi- stakeholder processes. I am dynamic, free thinking and result oriented.

IRESO Project implementing partners meet

On 25th July, partners responsible for implementing activities within the IRESO project met to discuss practicalities for implementation of the project such as; 

- recruiting community change agents

- selection of agronomists that will train farmers and youth

- designed strategies for mobilising 4000 farmers and 500 youth of whom 65% will be women

- defined criteria for selection of demonstration sites.

Are you a business person in the agribusiness sector and wish to be linked to buyers, suppliers and/or investors in form of equity financing, commodity financing, grants, loans or wish to have your products access markets? Do you fulfill the following requirements?

- You have a registered business or organization

- Are you in the sectors of horticulture, dairy & livestock, oil seeds and coffee 

- Your business has been operational for at least 2 years

- You employ at least 10 people or work with at least 50 farmers

- Your cash flows are backed by a bank statement or audited books of accounts for the 2 years

- Your Annual return is above USD 30,000 (100,000,000 Ugx)

Meet Florence. She is a young and ambitious manager at Interfruit dealers ltd. Interfruit dealers are producers of fresh fruits, which are exported to the EU and now also to the United Arab Emirates. “We are very exited about this new market as they demand high volumes and have less strict quality standards. Making it a very interesting market for us”, says Florence. Currently Interfruit exports 7 tons of produce, twice a week. The company currently employs around 35 local staff, including technical and casual staff who are doing the grading and sorting. Intercrop has its own farms, but also contracts a small group of small holder farmers to keep up with the wide array of produce in demand. Well, I registered my Company Hort Impact Uganda Ltd and we are starting to work with farmers to improve the quality of fruits and vegetables so that we can export them to International markets. I have been to Israel where I learnt and saw how things are happening especially improved technologies used in agriculture. I missed an opportunity to attend the PATH workshop. The investment ­financing is to help support solutions or start small scale agribusiness incubators along different value chains.

AAIN has established the AAIF to support emerging businesses and Small to Medium Scale Incubators to deepen the outreach and impact of agribusiness incubation in Africa. Small to medium Scale Incubators have untapped potentials that can increase opportunities for jobs and wealth creation for small scale incubators in Africa.

Amplify’s Agricultural Innovation Challenge - deadline 03/05/2016

OpenIDEO is an open innovation platform.

For its fifth Amplify challenge, they are calling on entrepreneurs, NGOs, designers and social innovators to develop solutions that reduce waste and improve the livelihoods of small scale farmers.

They are focusing on a few key areas where new solutions can have a big impact, including: improving access to markets, ensuring farmers have access to relevant information, using technology in new ways and financial services.

From now until May 3rd 2016, you can add your idea for a chance to win a grant of $50,000 to $150,000 and design support from IDEO.org.

Free online course Powering Agriculture-Sustainable Energy for Food

For those who like to learn more about powering agriculture: The global initiative “Powering Agriculture – An Energy Grand Challenge for Development” (PAEGC) is launching a free Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) in cooperation with TH Köln – University of Applied Sciences. The 8-week course, which will run from February 1st to March 27th 2016, introduces challenges and solutions for sustainable energy use in the agriculture and food sector. Time investment is 3-4 hours/week.

Nyama platform planning Outcomes- 27th Jan 2016 

Nyama platform held a planning meeting on 27th Jan 2016. The meeting was well attended with key stakeholders from; Uganda Meat Producers Cooperative Union, Solidaridad Network, TechnoServe, Agrarian Systems ltd, Pig Production and Marketing ltd, Pelum, NICHAM Agribusiness, OCHEO and AgriProFocus.

The following activities were agreed upon for 2016;

-Grow the platform to 20 active member organisations

-Organise a learning Exchange visit

-Lobby and advocate for awereness creation on African Swine Fever

-Launch Nyama platform on 4th & 5th May- Event

-Grow Nyama online page followers to 100; facilitate debate and learning

-Strategize on availing affordable artificial insemination services- PPP

Horticulture Multi-Stakeholder Platform meeting- 10th Feb

AgriProFocus Uganda wishes to invite you to the 1st Horti MSP planning meeting 2016 which will be held on 10th February 10am- 12pm at SNV offices.

We are consulting with our stakeholders to define activities for 2016 for the horticulture subsector. As the AgriProFocus mandate dictates; to bring together stakeholders to co-create and innovate, we hope to accomplish this by mobilizing horticulture stakeholders through the Horticulture Multi-Stakeholder Platform (Horti MSP). Horti MSP stakeholders will meet and agree on activities they will jointly do together.

Attached is the Concept Note Horti MSP with specific activities that AgriProFocus proposes for 2016. However, note that these are just proposals, final activities to undertake will be decided on in the upcoming meeting. Please be sure to attend this meeting so as to contribute in enriching the Horti MSP plans.
