The Strategic Support Program for Scientific Research (PASRES) of Côte d’Ivoire and the Uganda Council for Science and Technology (UNCST) supported by Theme 3 of the Science Granting Councils Initiative (SGCI) are pleased to announce the launch of a call for joint research projects in the fields of Agriculture and Health.
This call for joint research projects is the realization of the scientific partnership agreement between the Strategic Support Program for Scientific Research (PASRES) of Côte d’Ivoire and the Uganda National Council for Science and Technology (UNCST), which will allow selected joint research teams to benefit from funding over a period of one year.

Inclusive agricultural transformation (IAT) is the process by which a country moves from subsistence agriculture to a stage in which the sector is integrated with, and contributes to, the macro-economy. This then leads to the development of integrated rural-urban sectors, accompanied by a growing non-farm economy. Inclusivity encapsulates the idea that this growth also benefits the vulnerable in society and generates gains in gender-based differences.1 Many low-income countries currently face challenges in strategically prioritizing a set of policies for driving IAT2 due to a lack of access to relevant high-quality data and appropriate analytical tools. We are pleased to invite you to this multi stakeholder Forum that seeks to explore ways in which to harness digitalization for the development of agriculture value chains in Uganda. In March 2018, the African Centre for Trade and Development (ACTADE), together with the Konrad Adenaeur Stiftung (KAS), organized a roundtable discussion that brought together practitioners such as MTN Uganda, and many entrepreneurs in the ecosystem. An eye-opener, the conversation revealed the vast potential that digitalization presents to agricultural development in Uganda, but the frustrations were also many. Everybody in the room agreed to the need to engage policy makers to advance the conversation and perhaps address some critical gaps.
