About Me

My name is Sharon Anyango, the Marketing and Communications Facilitator at AgriProFocus office, Kenya. I am responsible for all communication and marketing activities in the organization, building networks with current and potential AgriProFocus stakeholders, branding, and monitoring and evaluation of projects amongst others. I am also here to assist you to navigate through our online platform, please feel free to contact me whenever you encounter challenges.

I am currently pursuing a masters in Media and Development Communication at the University of Nairobi. I hold a Bachelor degree in Journalism and Mass Communication from the Technical University of Kenya and a Certificate in Computer Applications from St. Joseph Vocational Training Centre. Additionally, I am a former scholar at the Woodrow Wilson Centre in Washington DC under the African Program, Southern Voices Network for Peacebuilding.

I have previously worked at the African Technology Policy Studies Network (ATPS), Elective Africa and as a video editor intern at StarTimes Media, Kenya. I hope to steer the Communication department to greater heights, increase the number of members at the AgriProfocus network and build its brand visibility.

My Journey in Community Banking

It is not the farm that makes a farmer; it is the love, hardwork and character.

Recently, AgriProFocus hosted the National Youth in Agribusiness Forum (PAINT-Y) which brought together key stakeholders in the agrifood sector among them youth agripreneurs. Promoting Agribusiness, Investment, Networking and Trade for Youth (PAINT-Y) is a platform that appreciates efforts by different stakeholders in supporting youth in agribusiness through initiatives that enable them access information, knowledge, resources, experiences and expertise.

Access to resources-markets, information and knowledge was one of the facilitated parallel sessions that attracted a high number of participants with majority of youths acknowledging lack of finance as one of the major hindrances in venturing into agripreneurship.

AGRIPROFOCUS PARTICIPATES AT THE GlobE PAN-AFRICAN CONFERENCE

The GlobE Pan-African conference was held from 2-4 December at Sawela Lodges, Naivasha, Kenya. The German Ministry for Education and Research (BMBF) and the German Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) funded six African-German Research Networks from 2013-2018 to develop promising strategies and practical solutions to strive for global food security within the funding initiative GlobE. Since the project is coming to an end, the conference aimed at communicating the research outputs to all stakeholders in the agrifood sector and provides inputs into the design of future international research cooperation.

The project was implemented by RELOAD, Wetlands, UrbanFood, HORTINLEA, Trans-SEC and BiomassWEB in Ghana, Nigeria, Kenya, Ethiopia and Tanzania. AGRIPROFOCUS HOSTS THE NATIONAL YOUTH IN AGRIBUSINESS FORUM

The National Youth in Agribusiness Forum (PAINT-Y) took place on 27th November 2018 at Safari Park Hotel, Nairobi. The event themed, “Investing in the Youth as the Next Frontier in Agricultural Transformation” brought together over 300 stakeholders in the agrifood sector among them; development partners, researchers, academia, government, private sector actors and farmers.

Promoting Agribusiness, Investment, Networking and Trade for Youth (PAINT-Y) is a platform that appreciates efforts by different stakeholders in supporting youth in agribusiness through initiatives that enable them access information, knowledge, resources, experiences and expertise. FOOD SAFETY DIALOGUE

AgriProFocus in partnership with the Kenya Horticultural Council and Nairobi County Government held a food safety stakeholder meeting on behalf of the Netherlands Development Organization (SNV). The meeting was held on 16th October 2018 at Jacaranda Hotel, Nairobi and in attendance were: researchers, private sector actors, development partners as well as public sector actors from county and national government.

SNV and its consortium of partners are currently implementing a project on Market-led Horticulture Programme which has three focus areas namely: – Food safety in fruits and vegetables, Food loss reduction and inclusion of small holder farmers in agricultural value chains.

AGRIPROFOCUS LAUNCHES PAINT-Y

AgriProFocus Kenya and Kenarava Group organised a youth in agribusiness stakeholder meeting and launch of PAINT-Y (Promoting Agribusiness Investment Networking and Trade for Youth). PAINT-Y is a platform that centers youths as the driving force of their agenda. The event was held on 18th October, 2018 at Dusit D2 hotel and it brought together different stakeholders to discuss on how opportunities can be harnessed for collective action for scale and impact. In attendance were agripreneurs, researchers, policymakers, private sector and; government representatives from Kenya, Netherlands and Israel.

Stakeholder meeting PAINT-Y!

AgriProFocus, Kenya in collaboration with Kenerava Group will today hold a stakeholders meeting on Youth in Agribusiness and how they can harness opportunities for collective action for scale and impact. The aim of the meeting is to share insights from the scan done by AgriFocus on the status of Kenyan youth in Agribusiness, provide a platform for youths in agribusiness to share their struggles, successes and the role of stakeholders in creating an effective support ecosystem for youth to thrive and grow. Lastly, there will be a launch of PAINT-Y, a platform that uniquely puts youth in the driving seat of their agenda. PAINT-Y aims to Inspire, Connect and facilitate Collaboration.
