AgriProFocus Zambia welcomes New Staff

AgriProFocus Zambia is pleased to announce the recent hiring of Mwansa Lwanga as Marketing and Communications Facilitator.


Mwansa Lwanga is responsible for profiling AgriProFocus Network in Zambia. Her role supports the team to build an effective multi stakeholder platform that promotes the Networks core mission of Making Agribusiness Work for Development.


Mwansa is a holder of a Diploma in Journalism from Evelyn Hone College and prospect Degree in Communication Science from the University of South Africa (UNISA).

Mwansa joins us from the Engineering Institution of Zambia (EIZ) where she served as Communications Officer for four years.

Delphy and AgriProFocus starts a tailor made training program for the Zambian Women Organization-Nsabo Yetu


The training is aimed at strengthening the horticultural sector in the North-Western Province of Zambia.


Nsabo Yetu wishes to address the most pressing matter which has now emerged: poor performance of the horticultural sector. Current horticultural practices are low yielding and unsustainable, the women work with local varieties of vegetables leading to low yield and unfavourable quality. Meanwhile, there is a demand of high quality vegetables from the mining community. However, the women are not able supply the need of the community starting with the lack of quality seedlings. The women have to travel 700 kilometres to access seedlings i.e. from Chisamba, Sunshine Seedlings.

Global Vegetable supply to dwindle by more than a third!

Climate change and food security is ever becoming a key area of discussion. A recent study by  London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine predicted that global average yields of vegetables and legumes such as soy beans and lentils are predicted to be reduced by 35% and 9% respectively.  What does this mean for the local Zambian horticulture farming communities?

RESEARCH FINDINGS ON THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THE E-VOUCHER IN 2017-2018 FARMING SEASON


Zambia's Public Policy Think Tank concluded its study on the implementation of the E-Voucher system implemented by government in the year 2017-2018 farming season. This timely brief has come at a time Government is reconsidering reverting to the Farmer Input Support Programme in some areas due to a number of challenges which are included in this study.

Agribusiness Bootcamp- Zambia Finale

The World Bank Group and the Zambian Ministry of Commerce, Trade and Industry (ZATP) in partnership with BongoHive and AgriProfocus Zambia launched the Agribusiness Entrepreneurship Bootcamp in Zambia with support from The World Bank Group in January 2017 to support Agro-processing enterprises in Eastern, Copperbelt, and Lusaka provinces.

The Zambia Agribusiness Bootcamp is a competitive mentoring and training program designed to help growth-oriented agro-processing SMEs who operate in value added agribusiness to derive concrete and feasible expansion plans. The 5-day bootcamp between 19th and 23rd March 2018 will support participating enterprises through coaching, market contacts and peer learning. The ban on processed meat product imports in Zambia due the outbreak of Listeria is expected to trigger discussion around the extent to which Zambian local producers are able to sufficiently fill this gap. It is uncertain how long the ban will last but however long it will take, it appears local processors have an opportunity to occupy more shelf  space on the chain store shelves.
