DfID to disburse Rwf24bn for agribusiness

The British Department for International Development (DfID) is set to disburse £23.5 million (about Rwf24 billion) through a new programme, dubbed “Improving Market Systems for Agriculture in Rwanda” (IMSAR).

IMSAR, which was launched in Kigali, on September 27th 2016, will see the money paid out over a period of six years to support agribusiness, help farmers, develop the private sector, create jobs and promote economic growth and exports in a bid to support the commercialisation of agriculture.

DFID director for East and Central Africa Donal Brown said agriculture must be at the centre of economic development because it has real potential, especially in Africa.

“It’s clear that there is need for investment and DfID might be able to help. We are committed because our mission is to eradicate poverty and so many small producers are relying on subsistence agriculture. We see real potential here. We see many of the right ingredients to be succ

Agribusiness can generate wealth for Kenya farmers

From tea farming in the central region to sugarcane farming in the Western Kenya region, livestock keeping in northern Kenya, maize farming in the north rift and fishing in the Indian Ocean, smallholder producers face more or less the same hurdles to wealth creation.

The key players in the value chain include the farmers, co-operatives, regulators, government agencies, research institutions, companies, business associations, financial institutions, multilateral bodies, civil society, and the academia.

Sustainable agriculture is not singularly fixated on the profit motive. It considers the socio-economic, environmental and cultural impacts of various activities along the value chain.

It supports the local economy through knowledge transfer, job creation, supporting local enter

Story telling is a scientifically-proven way to capture a listener's attention and hold it. It makes your pitch unforgettable. So, tell your story and tell it right. You're bound to gain attention, and the funding will follow.

Whether you're looking for investors or to get people interested in your business, your victory depends on your ability to explain what makes your business unique and to catch your listener's attention in less than 2 minutes. One of the most important things a businessperson can do, especially the founder or the general manager or someone who is at the center of the business daily operations is sales and learning how to speak about the business to others. This therefore these two things become the main target for every business that wants to grow.

Are you an entrepreneur? Company? Cooperative?, today AgriProFocus, SNV -The Netherlands Development Organization, B-Space and Netherlands Uganda Trade & Investment Platf

Africa’s Future Farmers

In order to face the food security and nutrition challenges of the future there is a need to develop the capacities of the next generation of agricultural producers, by identifying ways to engage and empower youth – both women and men. Approximately 90 percent of young people between the ages of 15 and 24 live in developing countries, where agriculture employs as much as 60 percent of the labor force, and yet the majority of youth do not currently see agriculture as a viable career path given the low productivity rates and the difficulties they know to have been faced by previous generations. Farming has always been associated with poverty and punishment from our  parents and grandparents.I remember when i was growing up anytime i failed my exams my parents told me they would take me to my rural home to dig.Anytime i failed in school my parents would threaten me that i would end up in the farm where people with no education goes to.

Cognizant of all the factors, combating
