The National Youth in Agribusiness Forum will take place on Tuesday 27th November 2018 at Safari Park Hotel, Nairobi from 7.00 am- 7.00 pm. The theme for this year is “Investing in the Next Frontier in Agricultural Transformation” and aims to bring county, national, regional and international stakeholders working towards supporting the youth in the agri-food sector. The Forum is one of the components under the PAINT-Y platform.

On 30th and 31st, AgriProFocus Rwanda in partnership with KAYONZA District, Catholic Relief Services (CRS), Help a Child Rwanda, Rwanda Development Bank (BRD), ICCO Cooperation and World vision International Rwanda, organized "10th Agrifinance fair and Market linkage event" that took place in Eastern province of Rwanda, Kayonza district which is located in the center of the province and easily accessible. The main objective of the event is to address the information gap on financial services and to offer market linkage opportunities to the agripreneurs.

Le réseau AgriProFocus dans sa campagne de promotion et de valorisation des produits locaux transformés du Niger après le lancement du 13 octobre 2018 au palais du 29 juillet de Niamey, a animé son deuxième pop marché, le Mardi 16 octobre 2018 au Centre Régional de la Recherche Agronomique de Niamey situé à la commune III. L’objectif de ces marchés est de booster la consommation des produits locaux transformés par nos transformatrices à travers le slogan « je mange local et toi ? », mais aussi de faire connaitre ces produits par le grand public.
Il faut noter que cette deuxième phase de pop marché a eu la visite du Ministre de l’Agriculture et de l’Elevage, du Ministre des Domaines, de l’Urbanisme et des Logements, du Ministre, Haut-commissaire de I3N et de plusieurs autres invités de marque dont les Partenaires Techniques et Financiers.

There is more and more recognition for the importance of youth in the AgriFood sector. They hold the key to finding new, innovative and sustainable solutions for challenges within this sector! This also means there is a rise in the amount and variety of initiates supporting youth in this sector.
AgriProFocus has identified the need for more collaboration between these initiates, creating a more aligned supply of support to young agripreneurs.
That is why AgriProFocus has been working the last couple of months on the design of a new global youth initiative that focuses on synergy and collaboration between youth projects/programmes worldwide.

It is that time of the year again! The nomination round for the Agrofood Broker of the Year Award 2018 is open. Since last year, the Food & Business Knowledge Platform annually awards a professional in the field of Food and Nutrition Security (FNS), who has undertaken significant brokering activities. Starting today, you can nominate someone who has been actively and enthusiastically connecting actors to align policy and/or practices with knowledge (development) in order to contribute to FNS in 2018.
In December 2017, the Food & Business Knowledge Platform (F&BKP) handed out the Agrofood Broker of the Year Award for the first time. The winner, Addis Teshome (IFDC) was merited for his work on the 2SCALE portfolio of public-private partnerships in Ethiopia, which was developed under his leadership. AgriProFocus Kenya and Kenarava Group organised a youth in agribusiness stakeholder meeting and launch of PAINT-Y (Promoting Agribusiness Investment Networking and Trade for Youth). PAINT-Y is a platform that centers youths as the driving force of their agenda. The event was held on 18th October, 2018 at Dusit D2 hotel and it brought together different stakeholders to discuss on how opportunities can be harnessed for collective action for scale and impact. In attendance were agripreneurs, researchers, policymakers, private sector and; government representatives from Kenya, Netherlands and Israel.
The meeting aimed at sharing AgriProFocus research findings on “Status of Youth in Agribusiness in Kenya,” provide a platform for contributions from youths in agribusiness on their struggles, successes, role of stakeholders in supporting youth and launch of PAINT-Y.

We celebrated the launching ceremony of the campaign ‘’I eat local and you’’ and the opening of the pops markets promoting local products processed from Niger.
This launch took place on Saturday October 13th, 2018 at ‘’Palais du 29 Juillet de Niamey” under the chairmanship of the “Ministre, Haut commissariat à l’initative 3N”, in the presence of the Governor of the region of Niamey, representatives of the diplomatic, institutions of the Republic, NGOs, technical and financial partners, banks and financial institutions, civil society organizations, farmers' organizations, agribusinesses enterprises
• More than 400 people took part in the ceremony; all these participants visited the exhibition stands.

Appreciation of the role of aggregation and developing action plans towards its implementation was the focus of a workshop held by Agriterra and facilitated by Agriprofocus in Lundazi and Katete.
The capacity building which was Kicked off with a training workshop in August in Lundazi and Katete, provided an opportunity to deepen and expand farmer engagement with focus on Aggregation of produce.
The workshop brought together participants from leadership positions from over 8 cooperatives that are supported by the Netherlands Development Organisation (SNV) under its Sustainable Integrated Land Management Solutions project (SILMS). The SILMS project is focused on improving market access of farmers practicing climate smart agriculture interventions.The capacity building programme in aggregation is aimed at enhancing market linkages.

The importance of dairy farming and its contribution to the economic growth of a country cannot be over emphasized. In most countries, dairy farming is not only seen as a source of nutrients for millions of consumers but is also an important source of income for farmers and plays a significant role in the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of these countries.
Therefore milk, and dairy are an important subsector in the national economies of many developing countries.
However, just like any other industry, the African dairy industry faces many challenges resulting from a number of factors, one particular challenge that has gripped the sector is lack of cold chain facilities.
Emerging dairy sectors in developing African countries cannot cool raw milk on-farm due to the lack of reliable electricity. Often the quality of the evening milk is lost because it doesn’t survive the overnight heat.

Young Emerging Farmers Initiative (YEFI) in partnership with AgriProFocus Network member Solidaridad Network Foundation, will be holding a Youth in Agriculture Conference planned to take place from 19th – 22nd November, 2018.
The conference which aims to enhance Private Sector Participation and Contribution to Agribusiness Growth for Youth Empowerment will be held under the theme ‘’Advancing Youth Empowerment in Agriculture through Youth inclusiveness in Agribusiness”.
It aims to foster an exchange among stakeholders on knowledge and best practices regarding the interfaces between agriculture, youth employment, entrepreneurship, ICT innovations, leading to prioritizing interventions going forward.

AgriProFocus Zambia is pleased to announce the recent hiring of Mwansa Lwanga as Marketing and Communications Facilitator.
Mwansa Lwanga is responsible for profiling AgriProFocus Network in Zambia. Her role supports the team to build an effective multi stakeholder platform that promotes the Networks core mission of Making Agribusiness Work for Development.
Mwansa is a holder of a Diploma in Journalism from Evelyn Hone College and prospect Degree in Communication Science from the University of South Africa (UNISA).
Mwansa joins us from the Engineering Institution of Zambia (EIZ) where she served as Communications Officer for four years.

What is the relation between youth employment and education in agriculture and migration? And how should organizations working to improve food security via employment and education programs relate to the political agenda of mitigating (international) migration? These were questions discussed during the Community of Practice Youth in food systems Meet-up on September 11, 2018. Edukans and SNV presented insights from their experiences, followed by a lively debate with organizations active in this field – aiming at creating a better understanding of the eclectic relation between job creation, better skilled and qualified youth and the root causes of migration.
