'Gender equality must be taken into account'

Interview Louise Anten, Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs

For the AgriProFocus magazine on gender "Making Gender Work: cultivating diversity", Louise Anten was interviewed to share the perspective of the Dutch ministry on gender in agriculture.

Louise Anten is part of the Task Force for Women’s Rights and Gender Equality of the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which is composed of people from different divisions within the Ministry. Her focus is economic empowerment of women in private sector development.

She shares her core message: Women’s rights and gender equality must be taken into account in all development cooperation, and not just receive attention in projects specifically directed towards women. To ensure that this happens, it is crucial to find business cases for gender inclusive development.

‘To integrate respect for women’s rights and gender equality in everything we do,’ was Louise Anten’s reply wh

LOUISE ANNICK DJENGUE I really appreciate what the Dutch Ministry  of Foreign affairs, is achieving in the Third word and especially in Africa, and it's really important  to listen to women on the field facing huge difficulties, i have experience and saw many women in  Africa  Leader and enterpreneurship Forum in Burkina Faso, the GENDER problem was  an issue and no support of most of our Government, and Male, we could learn the impact of the Woman in Local development and Africa is standing behind because women are set aside on decisions and YES on agricultural contribution. I think we also need a good campaign to inform and encourage our population to start  consuming their own Products, alot of  agro-products transformed Organic Food but GOES ON WASTE BECAUSE OF THE LOCAL MARKET.( MY FUTURE PROJECT)So Thank you very much  Agri Focus.

The results of these discussions are in particular expected to help shaping the future Dutch food security policy, in the context of the adapted policy for International Trade and Development Cooperation.

· In de periode 2011-16 is ruim € 1,5 miljard gecommitteerd (ca. € 300 miljoen per jaar), verdeeld over ruim 250 projecten. Dat duidt op nogal wat versnippering;

· Ruim de helft van de middelen (56%) is gebruikt voor programma’s gericht op vergroting van de landbouwproductie en een derde (32%) is voor markton

Rabobank Foundation, AgriProFocus and ICCO present ‘Critical Capital’ at foodFIRST

The report focuses on how to ease investments in agrifood small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Africa.

Rabobank Foundation, ICCO Cooperation and AgriProFocus will present their new report ‘Critical Capital for African Agrifood SMEs’ during the foodFIRST conference in Utrecht, the Netherlands, on June 1. The report focuses on how to ease investments in agrifood small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Africa. It identifies the needs, current supply, unmet demand, challenges and inspiring cases of SMEs. Registration for foodFIRST is now open.

African agrifood entrepreneurs are key for establishing sustainable food systems to supply the growing African cities. However, agrifood SMEs face difficulties to access capital. They form the missing middle: too large for micro-finance and too small for mainstream banks and private equity firms. The report therefore calls on policy makers to promote a gradu

Climate Smart Agriculture

The last half we worked together with the Dutch Embassy in Pretoria (South Africa) and the Netherlands Enterprise agency (RVO) on a scoping study  on innovations related to Climate Smart Agriculture. In principle with a focus on South Africa, however applicable to all countries who face  server challenges. The result is interesting for parties who want to use climate adaptation and mitigation technologies (such as drought resistant plant varieties, use of water efficient instruments, soil improvement, use of inputs, solare power for water production, early warning systems) in the primary agricultural area.
