The jury, consisting of members of the F&BKP network, has selected three finalists out of 11 nominees.

Coffee produced by Ngororero Coffee Washing Station in Western Province has scooped both the “Best of the Best” and “Coffee Lover’s Choice” awards in a competition that attracted brands from nine countries.
The awards were announced last week in New York, during third annual Ernesto Illy International Coffee Award (EIICA).
The awards are organised by Illycaffè – a global company specialised in high quality coffee trade—which operates in 140 countries worldwide.
It is the first time both honours were bestowed on one coffee lot in the history of EICCA, after rounds of blind tastings by an international independent jury of top culinary and coffee experts, as well as consumers across the globe.
Philotée Mukiza, the production manager at Rwacof Exports Limited – a Rwanda based coffee processor and exporter – received the awards on behalf of the company which owns the Ngororero-based washing station among other stations in the country.

In a feat which has all the makings of an unprecedented coup, four Kenyan startups have been named in the final ten of the 2018 edition of the prestigious Zambezi Prize for Innovation in Financial Inclusion.
The competition is committed to recognizing and unearthing some of the most promising and innovative early-stage startups that are making significant strides in the area of promoting and advancing financial inclusion on the continent.
Four (4!) Kenyan startups are looking to dominate proceedings. They are Apollo Agriculture, Bidhaa Sasa, FarmDrive, and Tulaa. All four start-up providing services to rural areas. The rest of the top ten is made up of South Africa’s LanteOTC and Wala, Ghana’s Farmerline and OZE, and the duo of RecyclePoints and MaTontine from Nigeria and Senegal respectively.

Konsorsium Pembaruan Agraria (KPA) kembali menyelenggarakan Agrarian Reform Media Awards, yakni ajang penghargaan sebagai bentuk apresiasi terhadap insan jurnalis dan media pers yang selama ini dinilai konsisten memberikan dukungannya terhadap kerja-kerja pembaruan agraria di Indonesia melalui karya-karya jurnalistik yang mereka lahirkan. Ini adalah ajang yang kedua setelah pertama kali diselenggarakan 2016 lalu.
Dalam penyelenggaraan kali ini, KPA didukung oleh Dewan Pers dan Ikatan Jurnalis Televisi Indonesia (IJTI). Pelaksanaanya akan dimulai dari medio Mei hingga Juni, meliputi penerimaan karya hingga proses seleksi oleh tim juri yang terdiri dari Imam Wahyudi (Anggota Dewan Pers), Gafar Yudtadi (IJTI), Abdul Manan (Ketua Umum AJI), serta Dewi Kartika (Sekjend KPA). Winners of New Vision’s 2017 Best Farmers’ Competition on Saturday flew to the Netherlands on a week-long agro-business tour. Ten farmers emerged winners of the fourth edition of the Best Farmers Competition held last year.
They were on Thursday flagged off at dfcu Bank headquarters in Nakasero, Kampala. The 2017 competition was sponsored by the royal Netherlands embassy in Kampala, dfcu Bank, Vision Group and KLM Airlines.
The Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries (MAAIF) has announced plans to award private companies engaged in seed production and dissemination in a move aimed at promoting high quality seeds in the agriculture sector.
According to Opolot Okaasai, the director of crop production at MAAIF, seven companies have so far registered for the pilot project dubbed, AgResults ever since it was officially launched in February 2017 by agriculture state minister Christopher Kibazanga .
The seven companies that have registered include CAII seeds, Equator Seeds ltd, Pearl Seeds, CEDO, OTIS Garden Seeds, Grow More Seeds and Victoria Seeds.
The pilot projects are designed to incentivise the private sector to overcome market barriers and develop solutions to food security and agricultural challenges that eventually affect people living in poverty, Okaasai said.

The USAID-supported East Africa Trade and Investment Hub, Syngenta and the Inter Region Economic Network (IREN), have launched the second edition of the agribusiness competition dubbed “Young Innovators in Agribusiness Competition.” This follows last year’s successful Agribusiness competition that attracted over 800 participants from sub-Saharan Africa. Out of the 35 youth finalists, ten have gone on to win other prizes in the energy and agribusiness sectors; ten have expanded and retained their agro-related enterprises and 15 are employed or pursuing higher education.

We are pleased to inform you that SEED has just launched the 2015 SEED Awards for innovative start-up enterprises that aim to generate environmental, social and economic benefits at the local level.
This year SEED celebrates 10 years of SEED Awards. During that time, we have recognised 175 SEED Winners from 37 countries and accompanied them in their initial scale-up. In this 2015 Award cycle, SEED will make available up to 29 SEED Awards to enterprises in Ethiopia, Kenya, Malawi, Morocco, Mozambique, Namibia, Tanzania, Uganda and South Africa.
Two SEED Awards are available to enterprises that are run or owned by women and prioritise women‘s empowerment; one of these is for an enterprise in any country that is not an OECD or EU member, the other to an enterprise in Kenya.
