Globally, despite efforts, not only that women are disproportionately represented in science, business and leadership, but also that, currently, women sexual harassment are rampant in many industries in developing and developed countries. Women have low involvement in Science and Research. Women in power and decision making (both political and non-political) are very rare. The African, with special focus to Ethiopia, the situation gets worse. Hence, the status of women shows that there are plenty of gaps, which require systematic and strategic interventions.

The SME-Award aims at identifying a number of companies out of specified sectors (garment and textile, agro-processing, leather and shoes, renewable energies) that have the potential to become partnership-ready by receiving an advisory service from a professional consultancy. Tackled shall be jointly identified challenges that hinder them to acquire partners. Additionally the initiative works together with a certain number of investors and donor-programmes in order to assist the selected companies to be matched to potential partners.
The objectives of the Call are to:
support collaborative Research and Innovation (R&I) activities that address critical issues facing African countries and contribute to the sustainable development of African countries and the fight against poverty, while respecting ethical and gender issues;
develop the capacity of the African Union Commission (AUC) to design, implement and monitor R&I funding programmes and establish the basis for a credible and reputable African framework programme for R&I that could attract additional funds from other sources (African Union (AU) Member States and other partners and donors)
