A Regional Youth Employment in Agriculture Conference took place from the 20th to 21st at Kigali Convention Centre. It was a two days event which brought together over 500 key stakeholders and young agripreneurs mainly from Africa, to foster an exchange among stakeholders (policy makers, development partners, the private sector, youth and women organizations, civil society organizations, research and academia) on knowledge and best practices regarding the interfaces between agriculture, youth employment, entrepreneurship, ICT innovations in agriculture and rural development, leading to prioritizing interventions going forward.
Regional coffee growers, exporters and sector policy makers are turning their focus to domestic consumption, a move they say is intended to cushion them against fluctuations on the international market, which sometimes adversely affects their incomes.
They were speaking Friday at the official launch of the 17th African Fine Coffee Conference and Exhibition (AFCC&E) in Kigali. The event is running under the theme, ‘Specialty Coffees at the Heart of Africa’, and it is focusing production and marketing of high quality coffee.
The event was organised by African Fine Coffees Association (AFCA) and Rwanda’s National Agricultural Export Development Board (NAEB). Read more here

Food scarcity is not a new phenomenon. Food imports into Africa since 2014 have been estimated to be USD 50 Billion. Poor utilization of available arable land fit for agricultural production, post-harvest losses estimated to be at 40%, declining productivity, farm degradation and poor production management are all challenges that investors in agribusiness face.
Other key challenges for these investors include difficulty in marketing their produce, managing their farms while working in cities, evaluating viable agribusiness enterprises to venture into, accessing funding from financiers to fund their agribusiness ventures and falling prey to "fake" consultants, resulting in huge investment losses.
The program is also designed to help potential investors develop the right agribusiness investment ideas, equip themselves with research skills in a dynamic sector, develop viable business plans and manage their farm working capital.
Who should attend?
This program is designed for In... Read more
