On Friday February 9, Marjolijn Sonnema, Director General of the Dutch Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality visited the AgriProFocus office in Utrecht. She was curious to find out more about our network; who are our members, what drives us and how can the ministry and AgriProFocus work more together on agriculture and food security?
We wanted to present the broad variety of members and activities of our network. We invited members in Utrecht and set up a live video connection with Uganda and Benin. Our coordination teams there had invited network members and partners that are involved in the Benin “Uplifting the Fish Value Chain in Benin” program and in the Uganda PAINT program, two strong examples of how AgriProFocus facilitates Dutch, national and international partners to work together on common goals and agendas.

AgriProFocus Ethiopia provided an 1-hour-long knowledge exchange session on how to make healthy food choices for yourself and for your household. For this interactive knowledge sharing session, AgriProFocus Ethiopia worked together with one of its network members called Sara Antonio, who is a professional nutritionist.

The 2018 edition of the Best Farmer's competition is launched at Kiwenda in Wakiso district, with stakeholders pledging to continue support
WAKISO - Farmers across the country now have a chance to win farm inputs plus a fully sponsored study trip to The Netherlands, after the Best Farmer's 2018 competition was launched on Thursday.
"We are making a nationwide impact and are changing the image of agriculture in Uganda," Henk Jan Bakker, the ambassador of The Netherlands to Uganda, said while launching this year's edition of the contest in Wakiso district. For the launch, Bakker was joined by several other guests, including sponsors and journalists, at the farm of Celia Kansiime, one of the 2016 winners.

EKN Kigali is implementing the Aid, Trade and Investment policy letter of November 2014, in which the food security and nutrition policy spearhead features, in a balanced way. Aid projects are underway, starting or in formulation in the different result areas: nutrition, agricultural productivity, ecological sustainable production systems and the enabling environment. There is a close cooperation with the EKN water program which has an important IWRM project underway. Project managing and implementing partners are UNICEF, GoR MINAGRI, World Bank, GoR MININFRA, SNV/Agriterra/CDI-WUR/IDH/HollandGreentech, MottMcDonald (TA –IWRM). The intern will contribute to the general implementation of the Food & Nutrition Security portfolio. The portfolio consists of 3 value chain/sector focused projects (dairy, potato, rice, seed sector (food crops and horticulture)) and several projects in support of the enabling environment (access to finance, solar energy, agro skilling of youth, policy development). On 24th October 2017, the Embassy of the Kingdom of The Netherlands in Nairobi organised a Food Security Partners' Day themed “From Aid to Trade: Enhancing Effective and Proactive Partnerships in Food Production Value Chain”. The goal of the Partners' Day was to provide a platform for interaction, build new and strengthen existing alliances.
The topics covered during the day were inclusivity and scalability. Inclusivity and scalability are relevant topics in the context of the Aid to Trade transition spearheaded by Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Nairobi. We would like to inform you that there is a fourth call for proposals for Young Expert Programmes (YEP) Water & Agrofood placements within the framework of the Netherlands-CGIAR Strategic Partnership.
The YEP programmes offers young Dutch and local professionals the opportunity to take their first steps in the international Agrofood or Water sector. The YEP placements will be one of the instruments available to strengthen the Netherlands-CGIAR Strategic Partnership.
The call is open until December 1, 2017 and offers two places for Dutch nationals and two places for local young experts. Since YEP professionals need to be employed by an organization that is registered by the Dutch Chamber of Commerce, applications are likely to involve a collaboration between a CGIAR Research Programme (CRP) and a Dutch private sector, NGO or knowledge institute partner.

The project is providing 3,000 farmers in Malawi with a total of 300,000 small macadamia trees. This is being enabled by an investment on the part of the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The seedlings are being grown centrally by Malawian processing firm Sable Farming, which is also taking responsibility for their distribution to the farmers. The first edition of Poultry Africa 2017 event took place from the 4th to 5th at Kigali Convention Centre. It was a two days event which brought together over 1000 key stakeholders in poultry industry mainly from Europe, North America and Sub-Saharan Africa, to discuss the development of the poultry industry in Africa.
