This conference takes place tomorrow 1 Dec 2017 in the Netherlands and will be attended by approx. 120 guests, of which about 30-35 are from Africa and Asia. The guests are representatives of GCP and ARF research consortia, involved in these research initiatives touching upon a range of specific topics related to Food and Nutrition Security and to agri-food sector development. The conference will be used to discuss interim findings of research with Dutch policy makers and a broader multi-stakeholder community.

Eight new projects were granted in the fourth call of the Global Challenge Programme, by NWO-WOTRO Science for Global Development, in collaboration with the CGIAR Research Program on Climate Change, Agriculture and Food Security (CCAFS) and the Food & Business Knowledge Platform. The call focuses on contributing to business models, incentives and innovative finance for scaling Climate Smart Agriculture.
Transdisciplinary proposals were submitted by consortia of research organizations, a public and/or private organization from an LMIC, and CCAFS. The Food & Business Knowledge Platform has developed a very useful new tool. The Platform's website includes a world map now with all Global Challenge Programme (purple) and Applied Research Fund (blue) projects: icons are placed in (one of) the countries where the research takes place.
If the reader clicks on an icon, he/she can read a short introduction about the project and press the “Read more” link to find more details on the Research Project page. To better see all projects in one continent or country, the reader can zoom in by pressing the + in the right bottom corner.
AgriProFocus members can use the tool to gather information on the agri-food research happening in the country or region of your interest. NWO-WOTRO has launched the fourth call for proposals for the Food & Business Global Challenges Programme (GCP). GCP aims to generate research-based advanced understanding of 1) emerging key issues in food security and their impact on regional and local food security and 2) the role of private sector development. This fourth GCP call specifically focuses on contributing to business models, incentives and innovative finance for scaling Climate Smart Agriculture. The call is developed in close collaboration with the Food & Business Knowledge Platform (F&BKP) and the CGIAR Research Programme on Climate Change, Agriculture and Food Security (CCAFS).

The theme of the Call, which was developed in close collaboration with the Food & Business Knowledge Platform (F&BKP), is 'transformation of food systems with a focus on sustainability and urbanization'.
Within the Call, two types of research funding are available: for Integrated Projects (IPs) with a duration of four years and a maximum budget of 600,000 euros; and for Fast Track Research projects (FTR) with a maximum duration of two to three years and a maximum budget of 250,000 euros.
Deadline for submitting a full proposal is 16 July, and an obligatory Letter of Intent for a FTR-proposal must be received by 23 June 2015.

In this newsletter the Platform proudly presents the new website section featuring all Food & Business Research projects funded by NWO-WOTRO. Other items of interest include news from various partner networks as well as upcoming events. Of special interest is the article about the Kenyan Horticulture and Food Security Programme, as AgriProFocus Kenya was leading on the knowledge management of this programme in which Solidaridad, SNV and Hivos as well as the Dutch Embassy were key partners.
