Read this blog summarizing highlights of a GFAR event, in which participants learnt, but also discussing passionately, about data that are needed by farmers: data that are actually available and data that are not; who is providing or is expected to provide such data; examples of data services and data-driven apps; as well as about the data that are produced by the farmers and what rights they have on these data.
GFAR organized the event in collaboration with the Information Training and Outreach Centre for Africa (ITOCA), the Global Open Data for Agriculture and Nutrition (GODAN) initiative and the Technical Centre for Agricultural and Rural Cooperation (CTA).

Hi there! Are you that kind of person that can't stop talking about how amazing it is to LEARN from others and do you want to know (even) more about this?
On November 6th, a working group of learning experts have organised a small meet-up to discuss different kind of learning challenges.
So what is this LEARNING meet-up about? The objective of this work session is to talk about best practices of internal learning processes within our own organisations. In a small group of learning experts, we will work together on (internal) learning cases, challenges and find concrete examples for our daily practices.
We seek answers to the following questions: What does learning mean in our organisations? What do we want to achieve with it? When do we see ourselves as a learning-driven organisation and what is the role of a M&E expert in this process? And how do we exchange experiences about this so we really can start using interesting tools and examples in our own work/team?

AgriProFocus Rwanda seeks to support farmers to practice agriculture as a business, access innovative business development services and maximise profits. The availability of affordable and accessible credit is critical for the success of the agricultural sector. Credit enables agri- entrepreneurs to mobilise the resources required to support production and marketing activities, which are key to successful entrepreneurship. The growing interest in small scale farmers by financial institutions such as banks and MFIs has increased the number of financial products available. However, few farmers know of these financial and insurance products thus limiting their uptake and utilization.
Moreover, several agribusiness companies, cooperatives and farmers have various innovations, products and services they would like to show to farmers and buyers and thus increase their portfolio of sales. Increasing market linkages and visibility of agribusiness products will enhance pr... Read more

The ODI's Research and Policy in Development Programme (RAPID) put together essential 'things to know' about evaluation in 10 infographics. Interested to read? You can find the infographics in both a PDF in English and a PDF in French.

The Dutch Knowledge Platforms are said to ‘have gold in their hands’. A recently launched learning review provides insight into the achievements and added value of the five Knowledge Platforms since their kick-off three years ago.
While the Knowledge Platforms are diverse in their organization and strategy, the reviewers identify common “gems”. These include the multi-stakeholder approach that lies at the core of their institutional strategy. The Platforms do not operate in a vacuum, they are positioned in a context of diverse actors (ministries, NGOs, research institutes, consultancies, businesses, etc.). This shows that their approach is not installed to fulfil only the needs of the Dutch government, but a meaningful way to take stock of multiple perspectives in order to achieve a greater good. Other achievements mentioned in the learning review are the c... Read more
