Farmers count losses as poor quality affects demand for local rice

The Ministry of Trade and Industry has said that locally grown short grain rice known as “Kigori” is struggling to get a market after processing factories and consumers complain of its poor quality.

According to Rwanda Agriculture Board (RAB), there are different rice types on 12,400 ha of all marshlands in Rwanda with an average productivity of 5.8 tonnes per hectare. Rice produce increased to 113,880 tonnes in 2018 from 83,338 tonnes in 2017.

However, farmers mostly grow the Kigori short rice type which is of poor quality despite providing high yields per hectare.

Connecting Local Farmers to Buyers

We help local passionate farmers with good quality products link with good buyers. This is one of the ways to promote the agricultural sector and reduce high unemployment rates.

The agricultural sector has been booming for decades and is sure the backbone of our country's economy. However, fewer people are engaging in agriculture leaving the country flooded with imported products. The major reason farmers quit agriculture into other business activities is a lack of connection to buyers for the farm produce. Local farmers need help getting their produce to the international market for the best prices.

Cooperatives: Towards Tackling Marketing Challenges

On the 3rd National Cooperatives’ Exhibition, Bazaar and Symposium

Last week, from 3rd to 8th February, cooperatives from all over the country came together to exhibit and sell their various types of products and services at Addis Ababa Exhibition Center. The event was organized for the third time by the Federal Cooperative Agency of Ethiopia (FCA).

Smallholder farmers are scattered and, therefore, generally there is a need to bulk their produce in order to access lucrative markets. The present research wants to improve the capacities of collective marketing arrangements, like cooperatives, producer associations, village enterprises, etc. to resolve the challenges of collective marketing in face of competition.

Successful collective marketing experiences have been ‘build’ organizational assets that make their life easier. They regularly fine-tune their internal management and transaction modalities with members and non-members e.g. related with pricing, payments, and quantity or quality requirements. Hi Everybody,

I am an advertising professional with degree in Agriculture and my company, Tempest Advertising Pvt Ltd., India,  has a special focus on agri. advertising/marketing. Over the years, I have understood that one of the key reason for success of any enterprise is how they market themselves. Unfortunately the producers of agri-products are not exposed to Marketing and hence are not able to either sell their products or are unable to get the best price for their produce.

As can be seen from the attached presentation, we can be of assistance to both Agri-Inputs as well as Agri-Output companies and individuals.

Please do contact us if you need to get the right customers and right price for your products.

Exciting!! AgriProFocus Rwanda has empowered its members and other agriculture actors on use of the online platform as way of: marketing, sharing opportunities, communicating to other members as well as getting to know what others have done so far in Agriculture development and other cross-cutting issues.

This is a very important path that stimulates Rwandan actors to actively engage collectively in integrated development pathways as well as an opportunity for entrepreneurs to attract potential customers.

Big up APF Rwanda.

John Ndikuwera Was soo inspiring. Thanks Didier and Anatole for making it happen!
