First successful exchange between agribusinesses and State Agricultural Institutes (SAIs)

On Wednesday, June 28, Aeres, MDF and AgriProFocus organized a workshop about modernizing and diversifying the curriculum of the SAIs and assessing the requirements of the private sector for future students. The NICHE programme in Myanmar concerns the strengthening of 5 pilot State Agricultural Institutes (SAIs) with an outreach to the 9 other SAIs. Hands-on support will be provided with curriculum review, teacher development and ICT needs. It also ensures that the SAI curriculum will be better tailored to job profiles and real job needs in the regions.

Result-Based Management

Managing for lasting results in the new reality of international cooperation

During the last decade, result based management (RBM) has gained much influence in international cooperation. Still many organisations struggle to plan for real results with the accompanying processes and tools. RBM has consequences for the entire organisation: for project planning, monitoring, evaluation and learning. Learning how to design a solid RBM framework - in various forms – is a good first step to integrate RBM in your organisation.

New NICHE project to strengthen agricultural vocational schools in Myanmar

A 4-year agreement between the Myanmar Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation (MoALI) and the Netherlands Foreign Affairs ministry has just been launched. Two Dutch consortium partners and AgriProFocus members, Aeres and MDF Asia just completed their first successful inception mission.

It concerns strengthening of 14 State Agricultural Institutes (SAIs), Hands-on support will be provided with curriculum review, teacher development and ICT needs. There will be ample technical, subject matter expertise transfer between Netherlands and Myanmar. This aims to make the schools more adapted to their regional specific agricultural circumstances. Further, the project ensures that the SAI curriculum is better embedded into concrete to job profiles and actual job needs.

Our first mission was very successful, demonstrated high involvement and ownership by the ministry and a strong willingness from the

A positive start in Myanmar

Three weeks ago, I arrived Yangon, the biggest city of Myanmar to work as the Country Coordinator for the 13th AgriProFocus network. I am impressed by the positive spirit and feel Myanmar has a lot of opportunity for economic development. With nearly 70% of the labour force dependent on agriculture, this sector has a crucial role to play in improving food and nutrition security for all. My first goal now is to further explore the role and added value of the AgriProFocus network in Myanmar and start up linking and learning activities with our Dutch members and local partners.

I would like to share some first conclusions and next steps that we want to take as the network.

We made a good start, with the visit Rolf Schinkel, network facilitator and interim Director of programs the week after my arrival. Together, we conducted an intensive round of introductions. The AgriProFocus network was warmly welcomed by many of our members from civil society, the private
