Funded by USAID, Horticulture Innovation lab (USA) and UCDAVIS (USA), Reducing Postharvest Losses in Rwanda Project (RPLR) is implemented by 3 institutions: The National Agricultural Export Development Board (NAEB), Rwanda Agriculture Board (RAB) under the MINAGRI and the University of Rwanda (UR) under the Ministry of Education. RPLR under University of Rwanda has organised a series of trainings from 3rd to 5th April 2018. The Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Resources will inject Rwf13 billion to improve the pig farming industry, especially by promoting new processing technologies to ensure standards.
Didace Rushigajiki, the livestock specialist at the ministry, said the money will also be used to build capacity of farmers and extension staff on pig breeding, as well as disease control and value chain development to enable market access.
Rushigajiki said policies that promote quality and market access were in the pipeline. The official was addressing pig farmers and other stakeholders on sector issues, including market access, standards and modern farming methods.

The first edition of Poultry Africa 2017 event took place from the 4th to 5th at Kigali Convention Centre. It was a two days event which brought together over 1000 key stakeholders in poultry industry mainly from Europe, North America and Sub-Saharan Africa, to discuss the development of the poultry industry in Africa.
The event themed “Poultry Africa 2017” was organized by Netherlands - African Business Council (NABC) in close cooperation with VNU Exhibitions, the Dutch Poultry Centre and Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Resources (MINAGRI). Over 60 stakeholders of agri-food sector in Rwanda including government officials from different public institutions, private agribusiness companies, representatives of farmers organizations, financial institutions, and NGO’s have attended a one-day workshop on contract farming in Rwanda at Umubano Hotel, Kigali.
Under the theme “Transforming the agribusiness sector through contract farming in Rwanda” the workshop was focusing on increasing the linkages between farmers and agribusiness firms. The participants of workshop shared the current status of contract farming in Rwanda, they have also presented the experiences and success stories of contract farming as well as developing the recommendations for the promotion of contract farming in Rwanda.

From the 22nd until the 25th of June 2017, Dutch companies and organizations, active in agri-business in Rwanda, demonstrated their knowledge and expertise to the public at the Rwandan Agricultural Show in Kigali.
The expo was organized for the 12th year by the Rwandan Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Resources (MINAGRI). This year’s theme was: ‘Adopt climate resilient technologies to improve farmer livelihoods’. MINAGRI stressed that Rwanda is in need of technologies that can help fight against climate change and the effects. The Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Resources yesterday launched a new online portal expected to reduce the cost of importing and exporting agricultural produce.
The innovation, according to State Minister for Agriculture Tony Nsanganira, is a double win for importers and exporters of plants/plants materials, animals/animal products and agrichemicals in Rwanda.
It means they will be able to spend less time and spend less when acquiring import and export permits.
The ministry developed the portal through a direct project funding of $150, 000 secured from TradeMark East Africa (TMEA) a regional trade facilitation institution, Nsanganira told The New Times yesterday.

The AgriShow which took place at Mulindi, from 4th-11th June 2015 is the largest Agricultural Show in Rwanda. This year the fair received more than 200 exhibitors from 10 countries: The Netherlands, Kenya, Zambia, Germany, China among others.
During the last Agrishow, our stand was visited by approximately 300 visitors, mainly from the private sector: farmers, processors, etc. but also from other public institutions: researchers, students, etc. We took the opportunity to explain to them, how we facilitate knowledge-sharing and Co-Creation through Network development - Business Brokering -Innovation Communities - Debate & Learning.
The use of the online platform was also presented to the new members. Generally, most of the visitors were interested on how to use the platform to buy/sell the agri-products through our Market Place Section.

The 10th edition of the Kigali National Agricultural Show ended on Friday at the Mulindi show grounds in Gasabo district, Kigali, with the awarding of best exhibitors.
Organised under the theme: ‘Agriculture Financing for Sector Prosperity’, the show attracted 205 exhibitors, both local and foreign. Some of the foreign exhibitors were from Kenya, China, Zambia, Germany and The Netherlands, among others.
