Interview Louise Anten, Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs
For the AgriProFocus magazine on gender "Making Gender Work: cultivating diversity", Louise Anten was interviewed to share the perspective of the Dutch ministry on gender in agriculture.
Louise Anten is part of the Task Force for Women’s Rights and Gender Equality of the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which is composed of people from different divisions within the Ministry. Her focus is economic empowerment of women in private sector development.
She shares her core message: Women’s rights and gender equality must be taken into account in all development cooperation, and not just receive attention in projects specifically directed towards women. To ensure that this happens, it is crucial to find business cases for gender inclusive development.

Rabobank Foundation, ICCO Cooperation and AgriProFocus will present their new report ‘Critical Capital for African Agrifood SMEs’ during the foodFIRST conference in Utrecht, the Netherlands, on June 1. The report focuses on how to ease investments in agrifood small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Africa. It identifies the needs, current supply, unmet demand, challenges and inspiring cases of SMEs.
Is there movement in the FDOV file? Everyone craves for news about FDOV edition III.
There were rumors and I am regularly asked why AgriProFocus does not know anything.
Well, is there news? Last week some news seeped through about FDOV: things are moving! Th... Read more

With this question in mind around 200 entrepreneurs visited the first East Africa Business Dialogue organised by the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs and RVO last week. Dutch embassies in the region (Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda), sector representatives and companies with experience in East Africa were more than happy to share their knowledge and experiences with those interested in exploring the East African business opportunities.
AgriProFocus was also present on behalf of the sectors agrifood and horticulture. The AgriProFocus country networks provided the Dutch team with up-to-date insights into the market and related opportunities for Dutch agricultural companies (see booklet ‘Doing Business in East Africa’). Anne-Marie Slaa and Lisette van Benthum spoke with various company representatives with a clear interest in the linking services that the AgriProFocus teams can provide. Already during the event itself B2B linkages were made by... Read more
