Organic Certification Workshop for Horticulture Value Chain in Rwanda

On Wednesday 30th August 2017, AgriProFocus Rwanda in collaboration with Oxfam in Rwanda and National Co-operatives Confederation of Rwanda (NCCR) organized a workshop “Organic certification for Horticulture value Chain‘’ at Umubano Hotel, Kigali Rwanda.

This workshop’s objective was to discuss on the issues challenges and gaps which limit the development of Horticulture cooperatives among which organic certification is major and discuss possible solutions to address the identified issues.

During this workshop, there were 31 different horticulture value chain actors and stakeholders. The participants came from Government Institutions (NAEB, RALIS, RSB and RCA), NGOs and INGOs (Oxfam, INADES-Formation, and DUTERIMBERE), PSF (Farmers and Companies), Horticulture Cooperatives federation including organic farmers (ROAM) and cooperative union.

National Cooperative Consultative Meeting

The National Cooperative Confederation of Rwanda (NCCR) in collaboration with the Rwanda Cooperative Agency (RCA) with funding from USAID funded Cooperative Development Program(CDP) implemented by Land O’Lakes International organized a half day cooperative consultative meeting today May 11, 2017 with the theme: “Fostering stakeholder collaboration for improved cooperative performance in Rwanda”. The purpose of the meeting is to initiate dialogue with cooperative Stakeholders from different sectors towards establishment of a regular information exchange and advocacy mechanism driven by shared values of the different stakeholders. Frank Bakx How should I understand "strategies as identified by the Government of Rwanda towards sustainable cooperative development"? Is the Dlatform not meant to dialogue on strategies identified by other coop stakeholders? Are we only there to endorse Government's strategies for coop development?

Didier MUYIRAMYE Hi Bakx, thanks for your  comment. I think it involves the participation of each part (Government - Private Sector - NGOs). and the Government through the Rwanda Cooperative Agency (RCA) has to make sure the business environment is good for cooperatives.
