Event posted by in AgriProFocus Myanmar
  03 June 2019 to 21 June 2019 - All Day Event

Public and private standards for pesticide residues have become stricter than ever before. Pesticide residues exceeding the maximum residue limits can hamper trade between upcoming economies and the EU. Implementation of Integrated Pest Management is necessary to minimize pesticide applications. But while there are plentiful technical solutions, the application of Integrated Pest Management is still a struggle for many farmers.

The course is aimed at creating mechanisms that will support Integrated Pest Management though looking at pesticides-related policies, the role of the various stakeholders and innovative (technical) solutions. Participants will enhance their ability to identify and solve problems in Integrated Pest Management and food safety. It entails a mix of lectures, discussions, group work, excursions and fieldwork. Meeting colleagues from other countries with similar interests leads to mutual learning.

Rwanda and Netherlands moving from aid based relationship to commercial ties – envoy

Last year, a huge investment of tea by Uniliver, a British-Dutch multinational was launched and is constructing a factory in the southern part of Rwanda but for the Rwandan farmer to get their tea to the factory, they need a good road. So we are involved with World Bank and USAID in constructing good roads to help farmers get acess to the factory which in the long run is also good for the quality of the tea.

What have been your efforts in diversifying the mutual business interests and commercial exchanges for the citizens of the two nations?

Slowly we are getting it with the investment of Uniliver, with the tea investment, and last year there was also the launch of DSM’s Africa Improved Foods, a Dutch multinational at the Special economic zone which has been doing investment in nutritional foods. We are also very happy that there is a company in The Netherlands that now has a deal with a company in Rwa

AGRIBUSINESS TRADE MISSION TO THE NETHERLANDS

Event posted by in AgriProFocus Rwanda
  11 June 2018 to 15 June 2018 - All Day Event
  AMSTERDAM, NETHERLANDS

RE:INVITATION TO AGRIBUSINESS / HORTICULTURE TRADE AND INVESTMENT MISSION TO THE NETHERLANDS FROM 11TH TO 15TH JUNE 2018

Agribusiness is Africa’s untapped goldmine. According to a World Bank report, Africa’s agribusiness industry is expected to be worth $1 trillion by 2030. With up to 60 percent of the world’s uncultivated arable land, fertile soils, abundant labour, and all-year sunshine, sub-Saharan Africa surely has the potential to become the world’s biggest exporter of food products. Even if Africa decides to ignore export markets, the continent’s one billion people provides a huge and ready market for agribusiness.

Interestingly, more international entrepreneurs are tapping into the vast opportunities in Africa’s agribusiness market. And with the continued harsh impacts of low crude oil prices in 2016, sleeping agribusiness giants like Nigeria and Angola are finally putting a strong focus on agribusiness as a means to diversifying their economies.&nbs

ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE AND THE FUTURE OF EXTENSION SERVICES

Most of us have heard of a buzz word ''Artificial Intelligence'' or simply ''AI''; which is increasingly popular in tech circles. However, most people do not realise how AI is affecting their daily lives.

If you have ever received a recommendation about what video to watch on Youtube or what song to listen to on Spotify, that's AI. While video and music recommendation services are rather simple when compared to other AI systems, they do accomplish a useful task: recommending music and videos based on interests you've expressed and judgements you've made in the past. The more personal preferences data you provide to these platforms, the better AI recommendations become.

AI is here and it is poised to continue revolutionising how we access services.

For sometime now, I have been involved with a British company developing artificial intelligent medical doctors. The prototype AI doctor has been proven to be more acc

There is rumor about a new call of the Facility for Sustainable Entrepreneurship and Food Security (FDOV) . If you do not know any more what FDOV was about, this website of the Dutch RVO tells you all about it (also that it is currently not possible to apply for a FDOV-grant, but, .... there is a rumor)

Mr Anno Galema was one of the people at the ministry  of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands who worked intensively on the policy side of the FDOV at the so called PPP Expertise center. He has just started in his new function as First Secretary Food Security & Private Sector Development at the Dutch embassy in Kampala, Uganda.

An interesting interview with him was published April 28, 2016. It's about how the ministry looks at PPPs and role of the public P in the PPP. Read the article Here.

The last FDOV call was in 2014. All AgriProFocus countries were eligible at that time. See for the complete list of eligible countries: LIST

Food and nutrition security is one of the main themes in Dutch development policy. The Dutch government believes that the Netherlands can make a significant contribution to global food security due to the extensive knowledge on farming, the innovative business sector and the ambitions of Dutch civil society and knowledge institute partners that play a vital role.

"Every cow is a marathon runner"

What can dairy farmers from The Netherlands learn from farmers in India? And vice versa? That was the main topic of the workshop of Katrien van ‘t Hooft, during the Otherwise iWeek 2015. The workshop was attended by people from a diverse range of backgrounds and occupations. Van ‘t Hooft is an impassionate, knowledgeable lady, who set up the Dutch Farm Experience to arrange exchanges between India and The Netherlands. The focus of the exchange program is to lower antibiotic use in the dairy industries. Interestingly, not only farmers, also veterinarians, go on exchange. Since many veterinarians get their main income from selling antibiotics, they were often the ones preventing changes in antibiotic use. By IRENE JURNA, SUZANNE VAN DER MEER and ELSKE HAGERAATS.
