Special newsletter with updates on projects financed from the Applied Research Fund (ARF-1), facilitated by Food & Business Knowledge Platform and NWO/WOTRO

The projects funded by the ARF tackle challenges related to Food and Nutrition Security and private sector development in the 15 partner countries of Dutch development cooperation. They all stem from the knowledge and innovation needs of farmers, practitioners and policymakers. The research-driven innovations support new tools and technologies for Food and Nutrition Security that should ultimately benefit the world’s most vulnerable people.

Co-creation, research uptake and nutrition-sensitive value chains

Results of the third ARF international workshop in Ethiopia

How do we ensure that practitioners and researchers in a consortium exchange and create knowledge together? How do we stimulate that research is taken up by a wider community of stakeholders? And how do we improve attention to nutritional enhancements within food security work? 

These were the key questions during the third international workshop of the Food & Business Applied Research Fund (ARF), that took place from February 13 to 16, 2018, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The workshop was organized by NWO-WOTRO and the Food & Business Knowledge Platform (F&BKP), in collaboration with AgriProFocus and IFPRI Ethiopia.

Launch GCP climate research projects

On earlier invitation only by CCAFS, NWO-WOTRO and F&BK. On 6 and 7 February 2018, the GCP projects will be officially launched in Arusha, Tanzania. The projects are expected to achieve impact on the objective of the Global Challenges Programme (GCP) which is to promote research-based advanced understanding of emerging key issues in global and regional food security and their impact on local food security, and the role of private sector development. The kick-off meeting is the start of a collaboration between CCAFS, NWO-WOTRO and F&BKP. A key focus of this collaboration is on impact, and how to realize the involvement of target groups and the back flowing of results into society, in particular policy and practice.

Food & Business Knowledge Platform and NWO-WOTRO host a conference

Research & Policy: two peas in a pod? A dialogue for food security impact

This conference takes place tomorrow 1 Dec 2017 in the Netherlands and will be attended by approx. 120 guests, of which about 30-35 are from Africa and Asia. The guests are representatives of GCP and ARF research consortia, involved in these research initiatives touching upon a range of specific topics related to Food and Nutrition Security and to agri-food sector development. (see http://knowledge4food.net/research-projects/ ) and representatives from policy, civil society and private sector.

The conference will be used to discuss interim findings of research with Dutch policy makers and a broader multi-stakeholder community.

Inclusive Business in Africa, Stakeholder Dialogue

Eastern and Southern Management Institute (ESAMI), a co-lead partner in the NWO/WOTRO project 'Inclusive Business Models in Africa', has been collaborating with the Rotterdam School of Management/Erasmus University and the Netherlands Africa Business Council (NABC) in carrying out a number of activities including Research and Executive trainings. To share their research findings with the stakeholders, and offer further tips on how companies can become more inclusive they are organizing a series of stakeholder dialogues in Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda and Addis Abeba.

The stakeholder dialogue for Ethiopia will take place on Friday 23 September at the Golden Tulip Hotel in Addis Ababa. The meeting will start at 09:00 and will end at 17:00 with a small network reception.

NWO-WOTRO has launched the third Call for proposals within the Food & Business Global Challenges Programme (GCP) 

The theme of the Call, which was developed in close collaboration with the Food & Business Knowledge Platform (F&BKP), is 'transformation of food systems with a focus on sustainability and urbanization'.

Within the Call, two types of research funding are available: for Integrated Projects (IPs) with a duration of four years and a maximum budget of 600,000 euros; and for Fast Track Research projects (FTR) with a maximum duration of two to three years and a maximum budget of 250,000 euros.

Deadline for submitting a full proposal is 16 July, and an obligatory Letter of Intent for a FTR-proposal must be received by 23 June 2015.
