The Rwandan economy depends on agriculture which employs around 80% of the total population. The majority of farmers are aged smallholder farmers and it is then difficult for them to have access to financial services, information and other agriculture services. Commercial Agriculture has been identified as one of the key sector that can potentially generate wealth, with high employment potential. This responds to the need of Job creation for youth which is in alignment with Rwanda economic development and poverty reduction strategy II, (EDPRS II).
The low participation of youth in agribusiness is further attributed to the limited access to key resources like; land, start-up capital, lack of exposure, limited access to role models and business mentors. Consequently, this has led to low levels of food production, low income, and poverty.

On Thursday, 19th October 2017, AgriProFocus Rwanda held 1st preparatory meeting of Youth in Agribusiness Festival 2017 at Chez Lando Hotel to gather different stakeholders' ideas in organizing 2017-Youth in Agribusiness Festival.
The objective of this meeting was to commonly discuss and share the ideas from different partners in preparing Youth in Agribusiness Festival 2017.
AgriProFocus Rwanda and Rural Development Initiative (RDI) in collaboration with different partners organizations are organizing a ‘’2017- Youth in Agribusiness Festival’’, to enhance the engagement of youth in agribusiness by facilitating information-sharing and practical entrepreneurship experience -sharing between youth role-models and those who want to enter the Agribusiness career.

‘’Promoting Youth Entrepreneurship Development through Agribusiness’’
On 28th October 2015, was held the first Youth in Agribusiness Festival at the University of Rwanda, the College of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine (UR-CAVM, Rubirizi Campus). The festival was jointly organized by UR-CAVM, AgriProFocus Rwanda and Rural Development Initiative (RDI) in partnership with the Youth Engagement in Agriculture Network (YEAN), Chamber of Young Entrepreneurs (CYE) and Hollanda Fair Foods (Winnaz).
The purpose of this event was to gather young people together with some development partners so that they share information on the existing opportunities in agribusiness and develop more networks that can help them to be more involved in Agribusiness.
