AICS offers scholarships for a Master Course on Conservation and Management of Agricultural Landscapes

The Italian Agency for Development and Cooperation (AICS) is funding 18 scholarships for professionals from Myanmar and the other Priority Countries for the Italian Cooperation System to attend a Master Course from January to June 2019, organized by the School of Agriculture of the University of Florence (Italy).

The course is part of the activities defined by a Memorandum of Understanding between the FAO and the Italian Government for the promotion of the Program "Globally Important Agricultural Heritage Systems - GIAHS.

Interview with Alban Singirankabo

Alban Singirankabo was offered a SEAD PhD scholarship at TU Delft, after a thorough selection process. As a lecturer at UR/CST-CGIS, with a Master from Twente ITC in Land Administration 2009-2011, Alban has already some experience from the Netherlands. He also knows Nuffic quite well since he was coordinator of a NICHE project implemented by ITC in Rwanda.

His research looks at the relations between land tenure security, agricultural productivity and food security. This is very relevant for the SEAD project. In particular, his research will assess the changes in agricultural productivity and ascertain their links with land tenure security and food security. Rwanda has been very successful in only 7 years to register all plots of land. Alban wants to find the reasons behind this success. MSD and WorldVet - 2017 Scholarship call

(deadline January 1)

Based on the successful deliverance of the MSD Animal Health/WVA Veterinary Student Scholarship Program 2016, MSD Animal Health and WVA agreed to continue the good collaborations and to launch the Veterinary Student Scholarship Program 2017 to include 41 scholarships of US 5000$ (of a total of $205,000) to be delivered to selected students from countries in the regions of Latin America (16 grants), Africa (10 grants), North Africa/Middle East (10 grants) and Asia/Oceania (5 grants) by mid-2018.

Eligibility requirements for students:

  • Citizen of one of the countries under the grant coverage.
  • Second or Third year veterinary students (accomplishment of first year exams).
  • Currently enrolled and in good standing at a recognized school of veterinary medicine in their country.

The Eric Bleumink Fund, established on 23 May 2000, provides financial support to Master’s students from developing countries wishing to study in Holland at the University of Groningen a Master’s degree. Ecosystem approach to fisheries

Fisheries management needs to take the mutual impact of capture fisheries and aquatic ecosystems into consideration. This course introduces the Ecosystem Approach to Fisheries as promoted by FAO. The collection and analysis of catch and effort data is also discussed.

Upon completion of the course you will:

- have a better understanding of the ecosystem approach to fisheries (EAF);

- know the steps that lead to application of EAF in your own situation;

- know how to analyse fisheries catch and effort data;

- be better equipped to evaluate the information that results from these data.

Course: Resilient and sustainable food systems

This course aims to offer a systems thinking and systems dynamics approach on agriculture as well as skills and tools to design innovative, resilient and sustainable food systems. It looks at how to balance between producing food, managing natural resources, dealing with uncertainty and providing an livelihood base for the rural population. It will move beyond the technical realm looking also at the role and involvement of public, private and civil stakeholders for inclusion of social, environmental, economic, and political aspects.

We invite technical staff, policymakers, scientists, private sector professionals and programme / project managers who want to build resilient and sustainable food system in their home countries, to enrol. Participants should be proficient in English, and have at least a BSc degree or an equivalent academic qualification and preferably several years of work experience in the agricultural domain.

East-West Seed launch agricultural scholarship program to celebrate 35th anniversary


To celebrate its 35th anniversary, vegetable seed company East-West Seed is launching a scholarship program that will enable 35 children of farmers to pursue undergraduate courses in agriculture.

The Simon Groot Scholarship will support farmers children that study agriculture related subjects. Named the "Simon Groot Scholarship Program for Agriculture", the program will provide an opportunity for 35 students - sons and daughters of farmers - to pursue an agriculture degree in public agriculture colleges and universities.
