Nine projects funded to improve seed systems in Asia and Sub-Saharan Africa:

Nine projects are funded by NWO-WOTRO to strengthen the Netherlands-CGIAR research partnership on generating insights that contribute to improving seed systems in focus regions within Asia and Sub-Sahara Africa. Specific seed systems addressed are cassava, maize, groundnut, vegetables, cocoa, forage seed, tilapia and chicken, while some projects have a more general focus on improving the functioning and inclusiveness of seed systems and (actors in) markets.

The call on “Seed Systems Development: Enabling and Scaling Genetic Improvement and Propagation Materials” was released by the Netherlands-CGIAR partnership. The nine awarded project consortia consist of Dutch research institutes, CGIAR research centers (through CGIAR research programmes or platforms), and (local) partners from the public and private sector.

Netherlands-CGIAR partnership launches

Research call on improving Seed Systems in Asia and Sub-Sahara Africa

The Netherlands-CGIAR partnership has launched a Call for research proposals which generate insights that contribute to improving “seed” systems in Asia and Sub-Sahara Africa. Applications for pre-proposals can be submitted until April 12, 2018. The deadline for full proposals will be August 30, 2018.

The Netherlands – CGIAR research programme contributes to transformational change in agriculture around the world by advancing food system knowledge and joint public and private innovation. It is my belief that a stronger seed sector could help drive broader changes that would prompt more young people to pursue opportunities in agriculture. I know from my work that agriculture in Kenya could be every bit as exciting and profitable as working at a tech company or an investment firm.

Nicole Metz Thanks for posting Noel Templer. Do you know about the Integrated Seed Sector Development programme, ISSD? You may want to read the outcomes of their recent synthesis conference through this link: http://www.issdseed.org/issd-africa-synthesis-conference
