The global challenge is to provide sufficient food for a nutritious diet for healthy living for the growing world population that can be sustained for generations. This course explores the role of food systems in the provision of healthy and sustainable diets at national, regional and global levels.
Upon completion of the course you will:
- Participants get well acquainted with the framework of city region food systems in relation to food and nutrition security in densely populated areas;
- Participants are able to use the concepts of city region food systems to analyse urban food and nutrition security issues;
- Participants are able to use different designs, methods and approaches, and their interrelationships, in planning for food and nutrition security in urbanizing societies

Three Social Science PhD positions in project 3R Kenya
Three social science PhD positions at Wageningen University (with scholarship) in project '3R Kenya - Resilient, Robust and Reliable - from Aid to Trade'
part of the Dutch- Kenyan transition strategy from aid to trade, Wageningen UR
will implement a project that assesses and validates to what extent lessons can
be learned from the Netherlands Embassy’s Agriculture and Food and Nutrition
The project will focus on the horticulture, dairy and aquaculture sectors. The 3R Kenya project (Resilient, Robust and Reliable - from Aid to Trade) will investigate whether these lessons can be transferred and scaled up, and as such better anchored within Kenya’s changing agri-food system and especially the dairy, horticulture and aquaculture sectors.
The project will also include the experiences of other related programmes in Kenya that are centrally funded by the government of the Netherlands and simila
DairyBISS stimulates private dairy sector development in Ethiopia, with a focus on commercial farms. The project is carried out by Fair & Sustainable Ethiopia and Wageningen UR Livestock Research. It is funded by the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. Running from 2015 till early 2018, the project will establish i) a dairy business platform that will initiate activities in business development and business information development, covering technical and organizational innovations like private farm advice, innovative housing systems, and forage production; ii) a dairy advisor network that will offer skill training and coaching to dairy advisors and trainers.
