Arboneth (an abbreviation of Arboretum-Network-Ethiopia) is a network of forestry sector experts and practitioners, hailing mainly from Ethiopian and German universities, but also including other concerned stakeholders such as the development wing of the Orthodox Church and Bread for the World working to strengthen church forests in Ethiopia, forestry sector projects such as GIZ’s Biodiversity and Forestry Program, ILRI, UNESCO the Succo Foundation and Unique-Nabu working on biospehere reserve development, and others, including Agriprofocus which helped to bring in the perspectives on youth engagement in the forestry sector.
At the present time, there is lots of conflict (e.g. in Western Ethiopia in the Guji and Gedo area), and in the urgent interest of peace, there is current talk in the Commission of Environment and Forest about distributing forest land to demonstrating youth. On Thursday November 22, 2018, AgriProFocus Ethiopia celebrated its Annual Network Day to strengthen the relations between AgriProFocus and its members and among the members themselves. The central theme of the Network Day was “Sustainable and inclusive agribusiness in Ethiopia”. Over 120 members from various sectors attended the event with full of excitement and energy. We would like to express our gratitude and appreciation to our members who attended the event and our partners who used the opportunity to promote and introduce their organizations and programs. We also thank our guest presenters (including in the afternoon parallel sessions) who took their time to prepare and provide their perspectives on sustainable commercial agriculture and agroecology to our network members.

During our Annual Network Day the pilot project of the Youth Business Challenge was also launched. Just the day before the teams went on a company visit to the two companies who are participating in the project, Senselet Food Processing and Chico Meat.
In the past weeks we have done the selection of five teams, who will participate in this program. They are fresh graduates and will focus on a waste challenge of a poultry and a potato processing company. The teams will be supported by training and coaching in order to complete the assignment as expected.

"With growing numbers of disenfranchised youth around the world and a strong focus on finding opportunities for their engagement and employment, CGIAR is committed to finding ways to approach the topic and planning appropriate activities, especially through its second generation of research programs."
They are seeking organizations and individuals with expertise and experience in working with youth engagement, enterprise and employment, particularly (but not exclusively) in agriculture to join this workshop.

On April 16th we had a very interesting Working Group meeting; Fasil Abate from Hope enterprise shared the BEST module for entrepreneurship, which they developed with Woord & Daad. We were also updated on the pilot project in Wukro, to involve more youth in Agriculture.
