''Engagement for impact in agricultural development. Experiences of the African youth”

The essay should reflect the experience you went through as a beneficiary of an initiative involving an agricultural institution in your country or region. However, in case you were directly involved in the implementation of such an initiative, directed towards youth, and you are able to share the experience of engaging other youth, YPARD Africa may also consider your perspective as an ‘engaging yo

It's a long time since artists comedians group Original Comedy stop airing their Original Comedy show. This is appears to be because the artists are engaging in various activities different from that of comedy.

One of the comedian, Issaya Mwakilasa known by the name of 'Wakuvanga' has decided to focus on agriculture at the moment where he can open his agriculture company.
Wakuvanga spends much of his time these days  on the farm where he has been cultivating various crops in Bagamoyo including maize, rice, beans, papayas, onions, and other crops.
'' It is time now I focus on agricultural activities.I have gained huge benefits and returns since I embarked on agriculture activities. Alot of people especially youth despise farming activities but for sure agriculture is a good source of income" said Wakuvanga.

He has now established a farming company know as Kilimo Burudani and invites people especially the youth to join. The company will st

Stop for a while a read this agricultural interesting true story:

My name is Mr Tumaini Ngomuo, A graduate of Bachelor of Cultural Anthropology and Tourism at Tumaini University Iringa on 2011.After finished my study I passed across the same stories of difficulties on employment as many Tanzanian graduates. I worked with Tigo Tanzania as temporarily sales man and registration with commission base earning from late 2012, it was a poorly paid job. In 2013, I found a publication of a call for proposal for any agribusiness value chain business idea where the selected youth will be granted opportunity to present their idea at the Tanzania Youth In Agribusiness Forum (TYIAF) arranged by AgriProFocus, TGFA, Farm Africa and others. Money or source of funds is vital in engaging in any income generating activity. It is also a motivation for young people. In engaging in agriculture shortage of money is however not the only reason, a sense of belonging (either to a group or network) is also a key factor.

Everyone wants to earn some income. You might expect that this relentless pursuit for extra income would lead young people to appreciate the opportunities in agriculture – especially since the Tanzanian government and international donors offer subsidies and free inputs, to reduce the need for start-up cash. Yet, young Tanzanians are far from embracing agriculture - First it will degrade their [youth] status, like leaving the urban area to go do agriculture in the village while in town there are good jobs of sitting in the office. They won’t go. And this is the reason why even the youth in the rural area leave their villages, knowing that in the city there is

Hi all ! Am Daniel Merengo 31 years old, I am working at Njombe Town Council as community development officer. On February 2014 I was appointed to be YOUTH DEVELOPMENT OFFICER and on March 2016 I was appointed to be  COMMUNITY EMPOWERMENT COORDINATOR.

As a government organization we provide soft loans to youth and women through their groups, supporting small farmers with extension services. And we are looking for different opportunities to help youth employ themselves

Daniel Merengo Got you Jerome. we are trying our best. no loan is provided before training on entrepreneurship, group management and financial management. Now we are trying to reach different partners who are willing to provide our youth with life skills. any organization willing to work with us we welcome you all.

Hilda Okoth Dear Daniel, Thank you for the information. I think i second Jerome that what is more needed is the skills and not so much of the loans. We recently had a youth roadshow and what i gathered was the youth lack information. its good that you are also training the youth. If i may ask, is this a program in Njombe only or is it a nationwide program? If the latter can you provide us with information on the various areas? I think Youth have to know about this.

Tanzania just as other countries in Africa has the youngest population and each year, thousands if not millions of young people enter the country’s workforce without success. This highlights the great challenge of youth unemployment but also seen as an opportunity for them to engage in agriculture and agribusiness, a sector commonly termed as the villagers’ job. Which sounds less interesting in Swahili – Kazi ya kishamba. Good news is, the youth are now eager to join the sector with vigor and ambition. Thanks to various initiatives such as SNV Opportunities for Youth Employment (OYE) that arouses the interest of youth and keeps them sustainable.

In their quest to expose employment opportunities to youth in Agriculture, SNV OYE, Agriterra and AgriProFocus joined forces on 13th and 14th May 2016 and organized a Youth Roadshow in Arusha Tanzania aimed at exposing youth to various opportunities available in agriculture and agribusiness. Th
